The next SE30

#1

OK guys, I’m 99% done and think that after last month’s HPDE I will probably go ahead and do the HPDE4L in September with Donny. I believe the car is spec legal. Here’s some photos of it with most of the vinyl done. After conferring with Steve, I would like to lay claim to number 03 for the 3rd Spec E30 in Norcal (and it’s 30 backwards!), and it’s a lucky number for me. Let me know your thoughts!
Cheers,
-Age

Way to go AJ! Best of luck with getting your rookie license! Your car looks great with the classic stripes. My SpecE30 build is going a bit slower than I had hoped…but it will be done by the start of next season come hell or high water! (Maybe I shouldn’t say high water since I live in the flood zone of the Sacramento River  )

Cheers,
Scott Neville
(I’m going to reserve my old GTI-Cup number 44 for my E30!)

Congrats…I am hopefully going to be ready for next season also! My biggest question is whether to go and build a motor or buy a used one or buy a "i" car and swap all my suspension…

Nice looking car.

Congrats and Welcome!

I’m in need of a new make shift front spoiler (thanks to a little OTE at VIR) and like you homemade version.

Can you post or email me with some details.

Thanks
Scott

Thanks Scott N - look forward to seeing you back out there!

ScottMc - re: air dam. It’s 1/4" x 6’ x 1’ HDPE (high density poly ethylene). Mounted with 5/16" bolts and lock nuts with fender washers to distribute the pressure. Cut out the holes and trimmed the bottom with a Roto Zip. Took a little while and trial and error - lot of putting it on, marking it, taking it off, cutting it, put it on, etc. Til I got it right. One downside with HDPE is that it’s not paintable or stickerable. I was told that, but tried plastic primer/paint on a piece of scrap anyway and it just scratches right off with a fingernail. Didn’t try stickers but was told they wont adhere either, or will but not for long. Someone here might know, but ABS might be a good substitute and is paintable.

Good luck if you do one, it is cheaper than trying to find a replacement IS dam. Pls post a pic if you do.

Age - things will stick to HDPE. Check out the picture below - Toyo stickers and some duct tape to block the brake ducts during a December event. I believe all I did was clean with alcohol.

Thanks Ed, I’m definately going to try that. I tried the paint, but never tried stickers

By the way, I didn’t realize how close I am to matching your car’s theme. I will probably rethink that a bit. Do you/anyone know if you can peel the vinyl off of vinyl without messing up the underlying vinyl? I’m thinking about taking off the numbers on top of the stripes.

Hey AJ,

I was at Walter’s shop tonight (9-27)and talking to Kevin B. He said that you were going to test for you rookie license next month at T-Hill! That’s great. Should be interesting running T-Hill backwards. Rumor also has that Steve Russo will test too. NorCal is starting to grow!

Cheers,
Scott

I’ll also be testing for mine at Llihrednuht.

I was concerned because I’ve never driven it backwarks but Donny says I can do it on Sunday after I’ve had a chance to drive around the track a few times.

My car will be complete by then except for the fire suppression and right side net. And they will all be complete before racing begins in 08.

Looking forward to racing with you guys.

Hey Ron…nice touch spelling T-hill backwards…had me baffled for a few seconds! I thought Walter and I had a line on all the NorCal SpecE30s potential racers…you’re name is new to me. If it’s OK with you I’d like to add you to the driver’s list on NorCalSpecE30 website and put in a bio for you too. Can you e-mail me at sneville44 at yahoo dot com? I would want a photo of your car and a mugshot plus a short bio write up (you can look at the bios on there now for examples).

This is so cool…as it stands now for 2008 line up: Me, Donny Edwards, Kevin Borchers (he’s building a new car), Steve Krshul, AJ Goldsmith, Steve Russo, Carl Chui and yourself could be racing the season opener.

LOL, I thought it was a gaelic bar

Ron welcome aboard! I was at Thunderhill with Carl on Friday to check out his car, he will be sharing it with John Seratt. Looks like the 2008 season will be pretty full!
