Terminals Covered Tech Requirement

#1

I was looking over the HPDE Tech form and noticed that it has a blank for terminals covered. I am assuming this is talking about battery terminals being covered. It is my understanding that the E30 doesn’t come with the black and red covers over the battery terminals. I stopped at a couple parts stores and neither had any universal covers to try and make fit. I currently have the battery in the trunk mounted just like the pictues from the new battery tie down requirements threads on this site. Any recommendatoins on how I can meet this requirement? Thanks.

There are generic boot-like things that will do the job. If all else fails, a piece of plastic and some duct tape will work. You only have to do the positive terminal.

I’d make the cover rugged enough that if the battery came free in a rollover and ended up inverted, your cover would be enough to keep the positive terminal from contacting sheetmetal. Murphy would ensure that you were, at the moment, drenched in fuel exclaming “THAT MFKING MIATA”.

for good measure, also cover the exposed positive terminal on the cutoff switch. I just use racers tape.

I ended up finding some universal covers finally. Worked great on the negative and covered most of the positive. The rest I covered with electrical tape. Cutoff switch is next, and I will make sure I cover that terminal as well. I was a little surprised that they didn’t check anything during the tech on Saturday morning.
