My tranny is out and i want to put in a UUC Evo3 short shifter. Anyone use this? How about their s double-shear connector rod?
Tell me about your short shifter
I had the Evo 3 in my M Coupe. I liked it but don’t know that I’d want anything that short (height wise) in a race car. I have the B&M race shifter in my e30. It has a nice short throw with a tall lever.
I installed their race shifter and it works great. I Did have to bend my shift rod to make it fit. (It rubbed in second gear) If you remove the harmonic balancer on the driveshaft everything works great.
Very tight shifts and a good length for the throw.
Z3 leaver and the “Jaffster” knob. I did the Z3 setup becuase… I own a Z3 and put a short shifter in it, so it was laying around.
I would probably go with the Autosolutions setup if I didn’t have the Z3 shifter laying around.
Also, that “race shifter” that UUC sells looks interesting…
I think Ken Neuhoff’s old car that Seth Grace bought has the UUC race shifter. Jon Felton put the upgraded shift rod in his M3 and likes it.
Most of these types won’t fit because of clearance to the flex disc. You could add weight to the stock one pretty easy after it’s clearanced properly.
I really like the z3 2.8 lever that I put in my car. BMA sells a kit with new bushings for a very reasonable price…
Well i just ordered UUC’s short shifter race version, double shear connecting rod and urethane trans mounts. They said the race shifter will vibrate more, but hey it’s a race car. I’ll let y’all know how it comes out, should be done with it this weekend. Old shifter was so worn out and sloppy it would wiggle like an inch from side to side while in gear. Sloppy is not the word!
Sean is correct. I installed the UUC race shifter in my old car or Seth Grace’s new car. Nothing spectacular but it did tighten up the old sloppy feel. I did not do the UUC DSSR but I imagine that will improve the slop even more. While the overall feel is improved with this shifter it really won’t make you any faster. Ask me how I know. :S
fwiw, i had the UUC DSSR and ERK in my ol’ e36 M3 and it was quite fantastic. I used those parts w/ a Z3 shift lever.
