Team Dynamics qualtiy???

With Koseis harder to find, I was looking at both Team Dynamics and the D-Force wheels as options.

Then I saw this:

YIKES!

How are everyone’s Team Dynamics wheels holding up?

I can’t speak to Team Dynamics durability on an E30, but I know that OPM runs a bunch of cars (at least a dozen) on various TDs and unless there is a big hit to the wheel, they hold up great.

Looking at the last photo in that post, it sure looks like something (stuck between caliper and wheel?) was scoring the metal, leading to the rim splitting, then the final blow was the spokes breaking.

I’d hate to have that happen! Part of our between-race checkout is cleaning and visually inspecting all the wheels.

Dave,

Team Dynamics had an early set of those wheels which had he spokes stick out further than the hub. This made it very easy for them to get damaged. In the .2 version they are fixed. Which is the only one that you can buy now.

The Konig deal can’t be beat and we have beat the crap out of them!

#5

Just a vote of confidence in the new D-Force Rims.

Had a good bash at someone with them fitted this weekend just passed - took a beating pretty good. Little bit of metal ground away from wheel to wheel contact, but very good performance.

I’ve taken some good shots on my TD 1.2s without any issues. In fact had a USTC car t-bone me directly on my right front wheel and while it scratched the surface pretty bad it didn’t bend the wheel. Not the cheapest, but at least I’m a little confident I wont have to buy new wheels.

yeah that look just a little scary:

whole write up can be found here:

apparetnly TD was very proactive about the deal, replaced the wheel and asked for the broken one to be examined…

on an unrealted note is the konig/nasa deal still active? just noticed it wasn’t on the member benefits section of the website.

YES the deal is still active!!! However, getting a hold of the right person is not an easy task!! And it takes 6 weeks to get them once you order the set.

I just got 2 sets of rewinds for my spece30.

A little trouble to get them, but definitely worth it!!

WOW. that wheel damage is scary.

The wheel in question is the Pro Race 1. I have been RallyCrossing, yes, RallyCrossing on a set of those on my 3000lb Subaru Outback for three seasons now and they are holding up fine. I agree that the rim damage is a little suspicious looking.

The Pro Race 1.2 does indeed have the spokes inboard from the rim, at least on most sizes and offsets. A little heavier than the Pro Race 1 and perhaps a bit stronger but the brake clearance is reduced for those that are running big brakes.

I got my Konigs in about 4 days after I ordered them. You definately didn’t have the right person.

+1 on beating the crap out of them. My picture wouldn’t post (too large). RF wheel took a direct hit turn 1 CMP. The car was up on two wheels from the impact. The wheel is fine.

I fixed that for you

and that had to have made a hell of a noise before the failure occurred …

#15

That ocurred to me about 20 seconds after hitting “Submit”. The rim was probably dammaged as a result of the spoke breakage.

I strongly suspect the other way around. When the rim was cut in two, the forces on the hub would be astronomical at the first sideways loading. But who knows?

I just have to ask how many times this damaged rim has been through a tire mounting device? Perhaps this damage was the result of an inexperienced tire changer?

#18

Gasman -

The quote I included in my post about the “suspension drooping” was from the driver of the car. His hypothesis was that the suspension bolt scored the rim causing the initial failure, then the spokes broke.

I don’t think this was a tire mounting issue.

I have that exact wheel and here is my perspective. I went off in turn one of summit and bent the inner lip of the wheel bad enough to pop the bead on the tire. I took it to radial tire to get the tire removed since it was brand new and told him to trash the wheel. Paul looked at it and said he wanted to take a try at straightening it out and said the worst is he cracks it and it gets thrown away.

He proceeded to hammer it out for about 2 weeks and told me that wheel was the hardest metal he ever hammered out but he got it to balance with minimal wobble. I asked if it were safe to race, he said he would race on it (and he has been a racer for 20+ years). I have run with it numerous times and check it often but it still is part of my set of wheels that I race with.

Now, I have another one that did crack at one spoke but that was because a Miata decided to get too close and we literally went wheel to wheel (Obviously, I do not race with that one  ).

YMMV,

-Steve

In addition to the D-Force that we have a warehouse full of, we have a big shipment of Team Dynamics 1.3 wheels on the way in silver and black. These are a new wheel from them, similar to the 1.2, but less expensive - expect a little over $100 per wheel.

Team Dynamics were at one point the spec wheel for the British Touring Car series (BTCC) and while no longer spec, they still have about half of the field. If you have seen those races on Speed they are not light on equipment…
