Thanks Jim! My office now has a new decoration…
:woohoo:
Nice!
A photo op of SE SpecE30 wannabes would be interesting. At least 10 cars are out there.
This reminds me, has anyone talked to the kid in the red one. I remember talking to him at Road Atlanta, but I don’t remember if SpecE30 is in his plans or not. He was doing DE2 with a full race suit and HANS device so I imagine that racing is in his future. Obviously my plans are racing, and Jon is definitely planning on racing as well.
Okay I finally got my embarrasing Saturday videos up. I would appreciate some comments on what I did wrong in turn 4. I believe I just didn’t scrub enough speed and turned in a little late followed by too much steering input for the speed I was going:
Saturday Session 2 (Ran out of space on my vimeo account and spin is towards the end as I pitted afterwards):

Saturday Session 3 (I changed the brake pads/rotors over lunch so I was late to grid and only got a couple laps to bed the pads):

Put your visor down. Even with a windshield. Curbs at CMP: other than the kink, I can’t think of a turn at CMP where being on the apex curb is the faster way. They all unsettle the car as you discovered on the out lap.
As far as the spin, I think you carried more speed into the turn than before. That turn is tricky if you take the race approach rather than the straight-line-brake-then-turn DE line. The fact that the car seemed very tail happy didn’t help in your case, you just caught that spin a little late.
I couldn’t tell if you had locked down the brakes once you were on the grass, but it didn’t look like it from the way the car moved around. I always try to err on the side of locking it down sooner than later. Once the car pitched to point driver’s left there was no saving that spin. Both feet in at that point would have made a more predictable spin (which is a good habit in case you spin on track in the middle of an angry bunch of race cars).
Good, smooth driving though.
PS - You came back on the track in a very controlled, careful manner, checking the car as you went, proceeding at a reasonable pace. With that level of caution and maturity I welcome you to the race group as soon as you are ready! The speed will come, but it is hard to teach level-headedness.
Enjoying the vids, don’t forget to add your race videos to our Spec E30 group. If you aren’t a part of the group the page is here.

I’ve added Rangers and Towers vids. In the future once you have your video on vimeo just click the add tab and check the Spec E30 check box to put the video in the group (assuming you are part of the Spec E30 group already). I also group all the videos into group albums by track. For example we have 26 videos from cmp.

Its a good way to find all the Spec E30 Videos for a track you haven’t been to yet. Hint Mid Ohio for Nationals

To find the track group albums go to the videos tab in the group and then down the right side you will see all the track albums.
Session from Saturday afternoon…
Actually pitted to get some room…Practiced enough of my vague drafting techniques…
Did have some of the higher groups in with us for this one…The pass coming out of turn 7 was a little surprising…( around the 10:00 mark )

I had both feet in as soon as the car was too far sideways to come back. I remember telling myself both feet in as I was going backwards, but I already had both feet in at that point. I was surprised how far I slid, and I was really glad there was a hill there to stop me.
Somewhat late to the party (and still in Vimeo post-processing) but here are the first 11 corners (make that my only 11 corners) from the Lightning race on Saturday.
If you’re quick, you can see my driver’s-side mirror zoom off into the grass!

Sorry. That would be my dumb little brother.
I’ll be sure to make it VERY clear to him that he can’t be doing that crap in a DE2 session.
Again, I’ll apologize for him and make sure it never happens again.
Swing by at Road Atlanta and I’ll buy you a beer.
Matt

That pass was a little aggressive for DE2 (or really aggressive if you are supposed to use point-bys).
But it is a great lesson in race training. The camera car was clearly focused on lining up the car ahead for a clean pass and had ignored the rear view mirror.
It is easy to do. I have to remind myself to check the rear view any time I have a good dice going with the car ahead.
Matt…No problem what so ever and thanks for the gesture…Beer does sound good for RA though…
DE2 has passes with point by’s only and on three parts of the track for that weekend.
I knew the other e30 was behind me as I check my mirrors allot. I checked them right before pulling out for the pass…
I caught the corner of the e30 moving out as I did. I could summize that the other e30 saw the driver of the red e30 give what looks like 3 pass signals over the top of the car. I put my hand up to wave as I went by.
I was more concerned about the car I was passing as the driver was fairly new to DE2 and that track. I came upon it a few times and always gave it plenty of room to hopefully ease the tension of “not” having someone riding the bumper thru the turns ( I am friends with the driver ).
Either way…no worries from my point of view, and as you say Steve…Expect the un expected…

Who recently said we need adjustable brake bias in SE30? Those CRXs are twitchy little suckers, no?
Apparently he had air in the brake lines ( front ) and if you notice he pumps brakes before braking zone…Nice example of both feet in…

. CRX driver needs to retake fluid dynamics. Compressed air is still compressed. Compressed air just takes up less volume then compressed fluid.
