Stock seatbelt slider bolt hole for harness?

#1

I read about a guy who threaded an eyebolt into the stock seatbelt slider bar hole to use as a harness mount?

Does this get a yay or nay?

Also what reinforcement is needed for the substrap bolts? I’m using the 4x4" steel plates on the lap bolts (unless the stock hole above is ok). Also what is the recommend distance between the two sub strap mounting points?

Thanks

Dan, regarding the distance on the substraps, mine (simpson) was sewn at a fixed angle. I just layed it out and measured the distance between the mounting plates and transferred that to the car - equidistant from the centerline between the seat mounts. I used hardened steel washers, about 2 inches in diameter, to support from underneath the car.

Regarding the stock holes, those are what we are using with gforce eye bolts, they are the correct thread pitch and size.

Stock holes work. You can get the hardware, if you don’t have it already, from Pegasus and other suppliers.
I attach the sub straps to the bottom of the seat mount, between the floor and the seat bracket.

While the OE seat attach points are rated to take the loads of the OE seat belts, it seems to me that a bit of reinforcement is advisable if they are used to attach a harness lap belt. The underside of the body where the bolts are makes it a bit difficult to use reinforcement plates underneath. So I’m thinking of welding a 3x3x1/8" plate in from the top side centered on the bolt holes as a load spreader.

BTW, you can use the oem holes from the bottom as rear towing points with the proper hardware and reinforcements without welding (man, I need to learn how to weld).

I am getting ready to install my harnesses. I have used the stock seat mounting bolts to attach my seat brackets. I plan on using the left over hole on the left side of the drivers seat for the left mounting of the harness lap belt. My question is can I use the rigth seat mount bolt for the right harness mount. I have the eye bolts that will thread right in. This would mean the the eye bolt will hold that corner of the seat to the floor as well as serve as harness mount.

I can not find anything in the rules the will not allow this. I feel that the stock mounts are far better (and tested) than me installing the backing plate and nut throught he body.

Comments??

No problem, you can do that, it shouldn’t be an issue.
