Steering Wheel offset?

#1

Is it just me or does the steering wheel feel awkwardly high after the OEM seats are removed? Perhaps I’m awkwardly shaped? I don’t really want to raise my seat.

I search the forums a bit but haven’t found anything about creating an offset for lowering the steering wheel a bit. Anyone have any ideas about lowering it a tad ?

Thanks!

Dan

It gets done all of the time. Drill out the two snap off head bolts holding the column on, take them to Lowe’s to find out what size they are, buy longer replacements and a 1/2" to 1" spacer sleeve. Voila, lowered column.

BTW, last time I checked its not in the rules…

what does a large string instrument have to do with this?

Awesome, thanks for the suggestion. Glad it’s not in the rules or I’d feel like I was driving a rig.

For Bruce’s benefit, an internetization: “Vwahh la, lowered column.”

Just don’t mention banjo bolts or he will get confused.

PS - Over the winter I requested that Carter et al make an allowance for relocating the steering column in the new rules. No luck. Too bad since it is a rule commonly broken…

JP edited the original (viola) after I made the lame joke

BTW, by “not in the rules” JP means it is not a permitted modification. But I think it falls in the “weenie protest” category and I don’t expect to get any flak about it, so I did it.

Does anybody recall what size the bolts are? I’m notorius for going to get bolts and them not be available leaving me with an unusable car. What material did you use for the spacer? And pictures?

Thanks,
Jason
