Steering Wheel Lock

#1

Hey all, working on building a spec e30, was trying to do the quick release and having an issue with the steering lock. Nobody has pics in their DIY that I could find, but I pulled out the pin (had to cut it out) and the slider that goes up and down, but there is this bit in the hole. It still moves up and down when I turn the key. Do I need to get this part out, and if so do I just pull it out or what?

Thanks

Looks good enough. I cut most of that cast aluminum piece off with a big angle grinder but there is still a piece of mine that moves.

Thanks, I will just leave it then. Gonna wedge something in there so it won’t wiggle up, it seems to only move if I smack the column pretty good otherwise it just sits. Wanted to confirm I didn’t need to completely remove it.

You don’t need to remove the operating lever for the lock. Nor do you need to do anything with the lever. It can’t lock the wheel and it’s movement won’t cause any problems.
