Steering rack vendor

#1

I need to replace my steering rack and thought a long rack with tie rods would be best since the existing ones are old and could have been damaged in the crash that crushed the guts of the rack. A google search revealed a place called Griffiths that totally remans the rack and only charges $357 for the long rack with no core charge BS.

Anybody have a vendor recomendation or have any feedback regarding Griffiths ?

Thanks
Paul

Yes. I used Griffiths (for about that same price) back in the 1990s on my '90 325iS when 1 or 2 factory BMW replacement racks failed shortly after installation (the first made it less than 1 year, the 2nd just over).

I spoke to the Griffiths guy when shopping around for a rack (saw his ad in the Roundel) and he told me he was rebuilding factory racks but with the installation of a better seal kit, IIRC.

I bought the Griffiths rack. It was perfect. Absolutely perfect. I still have it, but took it out of the car last winter to do a Z3 rack conversion (no, not for my SE30 car). So I highly recommend them, if they still do it like they did 10-11 years ago. However, it’s also important to note that BMW’s warranty on parts has been upped to 2 years unlimited miles.

I know this is stale but does anyone know anything about Cardone Reman units? Limited lifetime warranty and only $292.00 but there is core charge.
