starting the build...

Pretty fired up, I finally have got moving on my car. I’ve wanted to keep it running to do AX, but the photos from the last one show my car rolling so much I at least had to do something about the suspension. So I got the blessing (well, forgiveness  ) from this missus and did the big suspension order and I just stripped the trunk today. I should have the suspension parts in by the DS at Thunderhill on 7/6.

Hey, are the trunk panels worth anything to anyone? I also have the little gas cap lock pin motor and the power antenna free to a good home in Norcal.

Destined to race in 07…

Cheers,

I doubt the trunk panels are worth anything but I sold my power antenna on ebay for $55. You never know what someone else is looking for.

hmmmm… Did I say free???

thanks newy, good to know!

AJ:

It’s good to hear that you’re moving along.

Keep posting as you move forward.

I have actually sold some of the stripped out stuff from an E30. Glove Box is worth $, door panels(but they are odd sized and a pain to ship=$$)knee bolster and wiring cover too…

Watch what you remove…

Seems silly…but stuff like this…

"gas cap lock pin motor"

I don’t think is on the list of "can be removed".

Not that it would get you kicked out.

Don’t argue with me about it…I ran without my trunk light as protest!!

Sorry Ed and Mike, but the car I sold you is illegal. No trunk light!..must be why it is so damn fast!

Ya know, that’s a great point Ric. I had my copy of the rules sitting there when I was working yesterday, and I’ve lurked on this board long enough to know better. From an earlier post I know the radio and associated systems can be removed, including the antenna motor, yes?

The gas pin motor annoys the hell out of me and provides no competitive advantage and didn’t think to go back and confirm it in the rules before popping it out.

I have rules right here and don’t find a mention of it, however there is 9.3.13.28 hood and trunk pins…latches are permitted. and 9.3.13.28.1 that if pins or latches are used then the stock ones can be removed. However, this doesn’t refer to gas cap, and I didn’t put another latch on it. I’m going to assume I need to put that back in.

Carter, is it permissable to remove it, or to disable it by not connecting power?

Ric, thanks for the catch.

Thanks a lot Ric

By the way - what did you do with the light? Guess I’ll be taking a trip to pick and pull!

AJ and all:

I seriously doubt that you’ll ever get any grief from a Spec E30 official because the gas pin is missing. However, we know that some have been playing a little loose (nothing serious but we can’t go down a slippery slope - which has ruined so many other club racing series) with the rules and will have a discussion about it at the next NASA Mid Atlantic race. We’ll also bring some cars to the "Spec E30 Official Van" (my "new" 1989 Chevy 2500 tow vehicle) so we can go through them, top to bottom. We’ll note what is legal and what isn’t, and will show the group what is important to Spec E30 officials.

That is true. I have developed a new theory, however, which is called Conservation of Non-Compliance. This theory does two things: puts money in my pocket, and keeps us from sliding down the slippery slope that Carter discusses. If I sell parts off my car to help others become compliant, then our net non-compliance remains the same. Plus, all the non-compliance will then be gathered up in one place, my car, rather than spread across many slightly non-compliant SpecE30s. Brilliant?
