Spolier/Splitter Question

#1

OK I currently have no front spoiler or splitter. What do you guys run on your cars?

#2

Most folks are using the stock airdam. I experimented with a splitter but near as I can tell from my reading, our cars have net rear lift. So if you can’t get some downforce in the rear, it’d be a mistake to add downforce in front.

And you can’t get some downforce in the rear.

A recent Grassroots Motorsports mag had a good article on aero.

Here’s a good, inconclusive, sometimes-adversarial thread on the topic.

nothing front or rear on the white car…not sure if it made a difference at Charlotte…Patton seemed faster and I think he runs the stock iS spoier on the front…

all negated when you are in the draft.

Man I want to mount my stock IS spoiler so bad. I’m still waiting on my buddy to fab up some replacement mounts for my broken plastic factory ones.

Just fab a little shelf under your bumper and hang the airdam on it. Then use flexties to fasten it in place.

I put an airdam on my car this time because I needed more room for Stickers!:woohoo:

I keep a bag of the plastic clips, we get them from the local BMW store and I dont remember them being expensive. Probably much easier to do that than to fab up new mounts…

I drilled and tapped my metal bumper E30 and bolted the OEM spoiler to it. I added two aluminum supports on the bottom to the bottom radiator mounts. Very solid.

After seeing your setup at NJMP, I’ve done something very similar. Much more sturdy.

Seeing this thread reminds me yet again that I still don’t have mine mounted. I think it is time to try and fab something.

I have gone with the stock IS front lip and use a combination on the stock plastic clips/flexties and a little duct tape just because. B)
