SpecE30 - Spec Miata Lovefest Report

#1

Any news on this event?

It was really terrific. The Miata director bought a bunch of good beer and the SpecE30 guys showed up and drank it. The only Miata guy I saw there was the director watching his beer rapidly disappear.

I think we should do this every weekend.

I kid about chicks. I don’t kid about beer.

Beer is serious. Chicks are frivolous.

Watching both races this weekend, I really didn’t see many E30/Miata situations especially in the first race where they let you guys be the first group. The Miata director definitely passed quite a few Miatas in the Sunday race though.

I would have to characterize The Lovefest as a moderate success at best. Contributing factors to its mediocrity:

  • Yet again, the MTI Knuckle Dragger™ Corvette prep shop occupied at least 1/4 of the area designated for SpecE30 & SM on the paddock map
  • As a result, half the SE30s (the Rowdy Raleigh crowd) were stuck at the downhill end of the paddock. Given the heavy toll gravity appears to take on some of them coughevancough, I was not surprised that attendance was thin.
  • We only had 8 Miata entrants. One is not legal to drink. One was busy trying to diagnose a motor problem, one was parked next to (and obviously alienated by) the aforesaid Raleigh crowd, one was there with his cute wife and probably had heard of Ranger…
  • I put the Lovefest on the schedule right after the race not realizing that I would have half the SM field in tech for 1/2 hour or so.

At the racer’s meeting I had threatened that anyone who had contact in Saturday’s race was ineligible for the free beer. No contact occurred. Coincidence?

The highlight was definitely seeing Jones’ cute daughter in her Beertech onesie. I would comment about his beautiful wife, but that is Ranger’s schtick. Oh, it was pretty cool to have my wife and girls at a race too.

At the end of the day we had 3 six packs left over. That it mediocre performance. I hope you guys can step it up next time. :woohoo:

I surely drank my ration, and contributed to the SM-E30 love by helping diagnose Hammer’s (the one SM guy I know besides DeVinney, and an all-around good guy) in the 08 (yes his number is on the rear of the car) faulty brake lights, which I’m sure everyone on track can celebrate. A good first attempt, probably something worth repeating for awhile.

i was behind johan at for a while on sat and was thinking to myself “oh cool, i can check out his technique, see where he brakes” etc, only to discover that his brake lights weren’t working. naturally i learned nothing, which is about par for the course. and anything i did learn would have been wiped out by the three or four bottles of 420 beer i drank before leaving the track. that’s on top of the 127 proof bourbon that jay brought for evening consumption which probably explains my double fail on sun.

Thanks for the effort Steve. Sorry I couldnt make it over. The WalshLakoracing camp had 7 children and 8 adults keeping us busy. I hope you continue the Lovefest and I promise to help consume the Sweetwater.

Strange. That’s the same count we had at the Lovefest. All racers, though.

#11

I find it more confusing when his brake lights ARE working! Damn left foot brakers…

#12

Seriously that was a far walk, and as Tower mentioned we had flasks of Bookers.

It’s spelled “boogers”.
