Spec clutch break in

#1

The instruction with my spec clutch say I need to do 500 miles of street driving with no full throttle, hard shifts or clutch drops. That is not possible unless I install it in my ix or my brothers car for a month. Even then it wouldn’t be possible unless my mom drove it. I know my brother got the local circle track to let him test the turbo car for a day which would be the only way to do it properly so that is the first thing I thought of. What’s the abbreviated break in procedure for non streetable cars.

We destroyed one friction disk by doing zero break in. When we replaced it we just spent the first several sessions, or maybe the first whole day, granny shifting it. Since then we’ve driven it hard and had no problems.

It was easier to spend some time shifting slowly in DE sessions. Now that I’m racing I’m not sure if a couple practice sessions would be enough.

I also emailed spec about it. Maybe they can tell me something useful.

If you don’t get a decent reply, consider calling. Often there’s some tech there that will give you good info on the phone that doesn’t agree well with the official guidance that they’ve been told to put out.

If you bought the ceramic puck racing clutch there is no break in. CB

It’s carbon/graphite. Anyway I got a reply.

You do not need to put 500 miles on it…what do you drive, what is your power level and what type of racing ?

It is a spece30. Around 160 at the wheels.

Just go have fun. It will be seated after the first lap or two.

God how I love an optimist.

Seriously tho. Glad it worked out. Breaking it in would have been a pita.
