Sparco Pro2000 Install

#1

Hey guys,

Just ordered a Sparco Pro2000 for my E30 — Are any of you running this seat?

I don’t have a mounting solution yet - I was planning on starting with the standard Sparco steel side mounts, and going from there. If you have one of these seats, how did you mount yours?

I’m about 5’10’’, and I’m not looking for a setup w/ sliders — I just want a solid fixed position for myself, as I will be the only driver.

Thanks!

What kind of solution are you looking for? Cheap? One that looks good? Do you have access to a saw, welder, and drill press?

Here are a few options:

  • VAC motorsports makes a nice mount for the E30, but it isn’t cheap.

  • Cut some angle iron and put two pieces together like a Z shape and weld or bolt them together and drill the necessary holes. This may add too much extra height to the seat.

  • Get rid of the Sparco mount, cut some angle iron and some flatbar and make a mount similar to the Sparco mount, but one that fits up to the E30. This is basically what I did.

I have the VAC mounts (around $180), a Momo seat, and Momo steel side mounts. This set-up works plug-and-play, but the seat is not centered on the steering wheel, which is the VAC mount’s fault. Frankly, I find it ridiculous that $180 didn’t buy a better engineered product. I do not, however, really notice that I’m about 1"+ off-center as I drive.

From what I understand, the Sparco seats and mounts do not work as easily with the VAC mounts. I would recommend the suggested option of fabricating something out of mild steel.

I took a picture of the bracket today. My application is slightly different than what you want. I custom machined a mount that’s similar to the VAC adapter, except that it also allows me to shift the seat left and right to get it more centered to the steering wheel. The setup in this picture sits on the adapter. Anyway, what you see is a piece of angle iron (L-shaped bar) on the bottom and two tabs that are welded to the angle iron. If you flip the angle iron so that the L points outward (instead of inward like in the picture), then you should be able to directly mount it to the stock mount points. You may also have to weld the tabs on the opposite side of the angle iron too if the dimensions aren’t right. If you don’t have a welder, you can just drill more holes and bolt the tabs to the angle iron.

I just installed my seat with a VAC mount. My seat is centered because I used the rght most set of holes… I read your post a long time ago so I thought I would add my 2 bits. I have a MOMO cup seat and SPARCO aluminum mounts…
