Can the sound deadening material in the engine compartment/trans tunnel be removed? As you can see it is falling apart and could be a hazard. Just wanted to make sure before I pull it. Thanks, Wes

yes
I wonder when somebody is going to be baller and dip a car. Start with an E30 ‘body in white’ of sorts.
Wes,
I was just re-reading the rules last night and thought I’d point out the rule that allows this (word search in the pdf file is powerful)
9.3.13.26. Any sound-deadening/insulation and protective materials may (3.1) be removed from the interior of the passenger, engine, and trunk compartments.

I guess we’ll know they dipped when they show up with a ghetto vinyl top (to hide the wrinkling of the roof panel) ala Penske and Donohue in the 60s.
Leggwork, thanks for quoting the exact rule. I read through the rules but was not absolutely sure as I must have missed this rule. Thanks, Wes

LOL, I have a friend who was involved in that era - told me a story of an inspector about to pass a car until he leaned on the roof and it dented too easily. The team ended up getting authorization to go to a local dealership, take a brand new car, cut off the roof and weld it on to the race car to be able to race that weekend.
cheers,
bruce
