Soo.... I bought a Convertble....

I am trying to decide if I should convert it to a SpecE30 or keep it a decent street daily driver…

Does a convertible make a good racecar?

Only if it already has a logbook!
10. Appendix C. – E30 Convertible eligibility
The convertible model has been removed from the list of eligible cars. However, any E30 convertible with
an existing logbook, and any convertible that is issued a logbook prior to November 1, 2011, will be
eligible for competition. After November 1, 2011, no logbooks will be issued for convertible models.
Why were convertibles removed?

I just got here… so before my time! But did see this thread on the subject:

DOH! Thanks! I guess I’ll build it for GTS instead…

Convertable:
Drop the roof, side windows and rear glass and you have to add 107 pounds to make up for this weight. We just chopped the top off of a 325is and weighed the parts. That is how i know the weght difference.
So the convertible has 107 pounds at a lower location. An advantage?

Doesn’t matter, it is no longer allowed.

Alrighty, I’ll get the 524td engine and go join Big Al in GTS!

But punting you won’t be nearly as fun if you’re in a different class…

If the REGIONAL Director is not up to speed on the rules, what hope is there in the world? Maybe the Mayans were right?

My td powered iC is as fast as a spec e30…and mine has a worn out cam and leaky injectors…one day I will run it on the track again, with different fuel pin, more boost…new cam, should be 2 secs a lap faster than spec car, setting it up right now to run straight grease on the street.

That is cool…I’d like to see that

Al can you “weigh in” on the weight of a convertible? I read Patton’s comments above and while logical, the vert has a fair amount of body reinforcemnt down the lower door sills. I always thought that a convertible wa quite a bit heavier than a sedan.
