Yo Skeen

Do you have a leak down tool I can borrow?? Are you going to be at RA

Got one, coming to RA. How long do you need it?

Al:

I have one in Raleigh, if you need it. You’re welcome to barrow it if you’ll show me how to use it on my car.

I plan on using it Monday when I get back from RA, does it come with instructions???

It’s really simple. Replace spark plug with tester, keep crank from turning, apply compressed air. Listen for leak spots (exhaust or intake for valves, dipstick for rings, otherwise probably headgasket), look for consistency in readout across all cylinders or two bad cylinders beside each other (HG). Good numbers are 20% leakdown or less, sometimes a bit higher. If you think you have bad rings, you can also do a "wet" test to see if the numbers get better with oil in the cylinder.

Anyways, I can bring it to RA if you can bring it back sometime on your way back through Durham in the near future.

Oh yes, and the cylinder you are testing should be at TDC.
