shifter bushings

#1

I’ve removed the shift rods and bushings. Now I’m wondering if I should buy oem bmw shifter bushings? What about some of the performance bushings from UUC? To make things more confushing they have offset shifter bushings in addition to the standard delrin. Would performance bushings really make a difference? The stuff is already out of the car, what about the short shifter, is it really worth the extra money?

I would get stiffer bushings to help minimize slop. As for short shifter vs stock shifter – I am having hard time coming up with real/ concrete / justifiable benefits. Maybe someone else will chime in….

Previously I’ve used the Z3 1.9l lever as the lever itself is a bit shorter and then the throw is shorter as well. I’ve sorta gone back to a standard length shifter and have, with great success, used the UUC Race Shifter and the B&M shifter. I like the stock or slightly shorter throw but I hate notchiness and a much increased effort. I would definitely replace and stiffen up any bushings possible and then either stick with the stock shift lever or consider what other lever options fit your likes.

I ordered the UUC delrin bushings and the z3 1.9 shifter Friday. Sort of a trial and error thing with the shifter. Did you have to remove the vibration damper to compensate for any clearance issues with the shift rod?
