SFI 38.1 HNR required as of June 2, 2008

the new 2008 CCR has been posted (but is temporarily not downloadable for some reason - I saw it last night). Amongst other changes, they have now stated that as of June 2, 2008, an SFI 38.1 certified HNR device is required.

At least Hans and R3 will be available in $695 models to match the price point of the Leatt Brace at $695. The Leatt site (www.leatt-brace.com) has been updated a lot and a new user manual has been posted. I’ve also started to see testimonials from people that have actually used it now (here is one from a guy who used one at Nationals http://www.nasaforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=19226&start=23 )

Hans have a new sliding tether system that they copied from Leatt to allow more side-to-side head movement. There will apparently be an upgrade to existing Hans devices.
cheers,

Bruce,

Have you used the Leatt brace? You seem to be a strong advocate for it. What do you like about it vs. the Hans?

I’m waiting for some testimonials about it before committing.
The thing I like about it is that it is less restrictive of side to side movement, provides side impact effectiveness, and can potentially be worn as an instructor, although Leatt don’t recommend it with 3pt belts (but the motorcycle guys use it …)

I don’t like the Hans lack of side impact effectiveness, that it can come out from under the belts in multi-impact scenarios (highly dependent on belts for effectiveness), and the company’s 800lb gorilla behavior.

I like the R3 also.

Another thing to add to my list for my build. At this rate I may not see Spec E30 Racing till '09, I need a better job.

Bruce,

Where did you see the information about R3 for $695?

Edit: Nevermind. I found it. Thanks.

Safety Solutions announced @ PRI two new versions of the R3 & Hybrid. The new versions will be made of a plastic material.

The Hybrid is SFI 38.1 certified at present. The R3 should have its certification by the end of January if not before.

The R3 will sell for $695 and the Hybrid will sell for $735.

There is now also a womens R3 and Hybrid available!
