Seats

#1

I was wanting to know what seats you guys are using, and what would you recommend?

Seats are pretty individual. I’d suggest that at the next event you sit in a bunch of seats and find what fits your butt. Sparco Corsa for me, but I have a skinny butt.

#3

Racetech 4009HR, though I would suggest sampling all that you can.

I bought my Racetech 4009HR from Valley Motorwerks, and agree with others you should test sit a bunch…and then buy from one of the Spec E30 supporting vendors like Valley.

There is also sizing information on Sparco’s web site to help.

Add me to the list of “try before you buy” recommendations. You can’t learn how a seat will fit you by looking at a chart. I’d also recommend not buying the cheapest one made, though you don’t need to spend $800+ either. Once you find one that fits you well (and allow just a bit extra for the thick driver’s suit and possible waistline expansion) be sure to search Ebay also. I’ve found some decent deals on used ones there, particularly when there is only one and not a pair, and if it’s got some wear/fading that makes it undesirable for the street poseurs.

I sat in a few as well at a couple events and went with the Racetech 4009HR. I’m 5’10" and 165 if that helps. The other seats fit well, it just fit me better and I liked the integral head restraints. Not that I know anything, I’m in HPDE:(

One more vote for the 4009HR (and one more vote for trying to sit in a few before you buy).

The 4009HR not the cheapest thing out there, but is built really well. In my opinion it’s worth a little extra to have a good seat.

Any of you guys use Corbeau seats? I’ve been looking at the FX-1, tough to beat for the price but I don’t want to buy it if it’s not a good seat that will last.

It what I’ve got. It fits me… solid with side mounts and seat back brace. Price was the selling point for me.

#10

Thanks scott, glad to hear it works well for you.

#11

Anybody know if Corbeau’s are FIA homologated? Their web site doesn’t say anything about it in the seat descriptions…

#12

Nope, that’s why you’ll need the seat back brace.

#13

Thanks. Sorry, I’ll use Search next time.

I don’t want to run the brace so I’ll get an FIA seat. But isn’t the FIA about due for a new standard? The last one was done in '99. Hate to have a $900 seat expire within the next 2 seasons…

#14

Its from the date of seat manufacture.

#15

Can sliders be used on an FIA spec seat as a way to accomodate different sized drivers?

Never mind, I found the answer. It looks like they could be used if the manufacturer had used them when it submitted the seats for testing to the FIA. Since that is doubtful then I am assuming that sliders aren’t allowed, even on an FIA standard seat.

#17

practically speaking, they are allowed - just use high quality sliders like the sparco ones.

Do any of you know about Bride seats?
