Seat Mounting Rules

#1

I am looking at putting a containment seat in my car. The ones I am looking at have FIA certifications so they do not have a port on them to bolt a seat back reinforcement to.

I would like to mount my seat on sliders because I will be sharing the car with another driver. I assume sliders are not allowed by the FIA which then requires the seats to have a back brace.

My question is does the seat back reinforcement need to be directly attached to the seat or can it just touch the seat back?

I would like to put a brace in that just has a flat flange that rests against the back of the seat, but I am not sure if this is allowable.

Anyone have any ideas?

It does not need to be attached.

It is my understanding the seats you are considering are not designed to work with a brace and may be compromised by one.

There are FIA certified sliders. I’ve seen no mention of a requirement for a seat back brace when using the sliders.

How does the brace compromise the seat? I would not be attaching anything to the seat just putting a flat surface behind it.

Can you point me to an FIA certified slider?

I don’t know anyone with composite seats that have had issues for not having FIA certs on sliders.

Adding a brace to a FIA seat is a big debate usually. I know a few people that use this brace after their seat are out of spec. Its nice because it much larger than an IO Port style brace but its also much more expensive.

In a year or two when my seat expires I will make the call to add this brace or get a new containment seat.

If you get a new seat and add sliders I would not worry about the brace.

According to OG racing, the sparco seat slider is FIA approved. That is what we have in both of our cars.
