Seat Back Brace

#1

I’ve already got a new Sparco Pro 2000 for my car. Am I going to be required
to have a seat back brace to get a log book? More importantly, do I need a
seat back brace to be safe even it it’s not required for a log book? I’ve read
the CCR’s on this and I’m a little unclear…

If I need a seat back brace, is the Brey Krause my best option? Other options?

thanks,
Steven

It is my understanding that if the seat is homologated, is mounted properly, and is less than 5 years old that you are not required to have a seat back support.

I would like to know if a seat that is homologated and is more than 5 years old if you are required to replace it or can you have a seat back support installed to be in compliance with the CCR?

More importantly for me is knowing whether or not this is a vital piece
of safety equipment.

At this point I’m leaning toward buying Brey Krause brace and welding it
in before I paint my cage.

I found this info on seat back braces:

Steven,

Some seats have FIA certification that make the backbrace not required…See the NASA CCR’s.

With that said, I have one of those ‘approved’ seats, but still run a Brey Krause seat back brace. It’s a good idea have one.

here’s a link and a pic of the version I bought…you can get a less expensive one that meets all the requirements.

yes, you can add a seat brace at any time to lengthen the allowable lifetime of the seat
