SE30 offset v. SM offset

#1

I have untold quantities of rims from my Spec Miata, which I blew up and don’t run anymore. I assume these can be used on the SE30, although I recall there being a difference in the offset, and I’m a bit hazy on offset.

Will a SM wheel make the track width narrower, or wider? What are the known offsets on these? I’m thinking of at least putting the SE30 rain tires on the SM rims, if the offset isn’t perfect, at least in the rain it won’t matter as much.

Thoughts?

The SM wheels will narrow the track unless you use (bigger) spacers

Thanks. And narrow the track by about how much? We talking half an inch or two inches? Is there any reason to think that running SM wheels to hold rain tires is a meaningfully bad idea?

#4

Typical SM wheel is either 36 or 45mm offset. We run 15 or 25mm offset, plus whatever spacer you run. To use a SM wheel with a +45et you could need as much as a 30+mm spacer per wheel…

The other difference is the bore size, so hubcentric wheels/spacers may also be an issue.
