SE30 engine builder?

#1

I just moved to the Dayton area from Virginia. I did my first race a few weeks ago at VIR, and believe I need to get my spare motor or order sometime soon. The car currently has its original motor with an untold amount of miles on it. I have a spare motor also, but I rather have it built before I put it into the car.

I’ve been looking around, and asking a few people, but no one really seems to know of any Spec e30 specialist anywhere around the Dayton/Columbus/Cincinnati area. I just need someone to build my spare motor, so even just a BMW engine builder would be fine.

Who are you guys using in the area to prepare your cars?

Thanks,

Cameron

Don’t limit yourself to locals. I just shipped my motor and a spare block to Chuck Baader in AL. He’s 7-8hrs away from me. It was surprisingly easy and cost only $120.

After I “accepted” a “bid” from UShip.com I rec’d a phone call an hour later. The guy said there’d be a truck at my location that afternoon. When the truck showed up at work I had one of the guys use a forklift to move the palletized engine from my pickup to their truck. And then I waved goodbye. To the MF.

Paul Poore is in PA, not too far to ship it and Chuck Stickley is in PA as well.

Shipping it is definitely an option. It would be a bit more convenient to just load it up in my truck and take it somewhere though. I keep the car at my dad’s plant so I have access to forklifts, and pallets, so shipping it might be the way to go. Who would you guys recommend to ship it to that’s not off the charts expensive, and what’s the usual rate for a built motor?

Glad to hear your joining the area! The only local BMW engine specialist that I know is Alan Jensen. He does all TC Kline’s stuff (as far as I know) but I have never had him do anything (or anyone else) so I have no idea on cost. He’s highly regarded, so I’m assuming that means not cheap!

In Cincy there’s: http://www.justbmw.com/
In Cleveland there’s Brett Anderson at Koala, http://koalamotorsport.com/ (you’ll probably recognize the name)

Hope that helps. Look forward to seeing you out there.

I also would trust Chuck Baader with anything, he’s frequently my first call when I need help.
