Gang, we made it official; SE will have a 3-race (not weekend) drop policy in 2012 for season points tracking.
SE Season Points - 3 race drop policy
Pantas supplied the up-to-date points this past Friday.
With the 3 race drop in effect, the season SE Spec e30 champion is Steve Lako!
(And he doesn’t even have to be at Road Atlanta for the final event.)
Congratulations to Steve tfor his consistant up front finishes this year.
He had 2 first finishes
3 seconds
3 thirds
etc., etc.
A model of consistancy.

Yep, after taking out the 3-race drop (DQs are not considered drops) it looks like the top 10 is:
[ul]
[li]Lako 1270[/li]
[li]Walsh 1047[/li]
[li]Patton 1014[/li]
[li]Sumpter 960[/li]
[li]Eric P 938[/li]
[li]Laura 932[/li]
[li]Fred 857[/li]
[li]Damion 831[/li]
[li]TPP aka Pissant 789[/li]
[li]Julio 725[/li]
[/ul]
so yes, congrats to Lako for a solid season, but there’s still room for some positions to change in the top 10. Should be a great weekend.
That right there almost makes me want to sit out the race, grab some popcorn, and watch from Turn 10b.
Lako, 1406 ( 1406 will be his ending # after the two-drop RA that he can’t attend and the -65 of his third drop)
Patton, 1147 + whatever happens in the Saturday double points race.
Walsh, 1108 + " " " " " " " "
The other numbers I agree with.
It will be a good race for the #2 position.
I would submitt that a DQ was not discussed and therefore could be dropped. Or was it discussed?

Ask me how I know.
Per the CCRs: 22.2.1 Default Points Drop System
All NASA series competitors will be able to drop their lowest ten percent (10%) of all season points-scoring races, unless otherwise specified by the class rules or other NASA publications. All “zeros” in the season points will be “droppable,” including all disqualifications; with exception of disqualifications as a result of “non-compliance” or “cheating.”
So, if you drive like an asshat, you can drop that DQ. If your track width is off by 1/16", no such luck.
Hypothetically speaking, of course.
Thanks, Steve. What was the Walsh DQ about?
The complexities of the CCRs
Regardless, congratulations, again, to Lako as none of the racers below can catch him (add 200 to Walsh or Patton and we’re woefully short of his 1406 total.)

I’m not sure - I hope my tongue-in-cheek “asshat” remark didn’t sound like it was directed at him. It surely was not. He and I have had great, clean battles on track.
Guys, I need to recheck my math on the drops. I think I took away too many races from Patton since he did not attend VIR.
As for dropping a DQ, as was posted, it depends on the reason for the DQ, so I will take another look at that and refigure/repost.
(This is what happens when I steal time from work to goof off – no good comes of it!)
DQ came from a cluster pass in 10a as a yellow was coming out.
What’s funny is that I was not initially DQ’ed but when someone else went to argue their issue, it was noticed that I was in the same bunch! Oh well, what’s right is right and I gave no argument.
By my calculations, RP has 100 points on me if I can’t drop the DQ.
Sounds like if we went by the “rule” then I’d still be short 39 points .
Whatever call you guys make will be fine with me, I’d love a “shot” at Lako and I finishing 1 and 2 for the season , but would totally understand not "benefiting "from a DQ , rule or no rule.
And Steve , I dont take offense easily, actually I was hoping you would do me a picture similar to the Gassholes one you did some time ago
Thanks guys! Great year with lots of close racing with one more to go. It would be fun to see the battle unfold between Walsh and Patton especially with the pack of Spec E30s signed up. Better yet, why doesnt Devinney bring out the 410 since he has clinched the spec miata points?
Better yet, why doesnt Devinney bring out the 410 since he has clinched the spec miata points?
The poor old 410 hasn’t moved since January. She will make an appearance again one day.
I was looking forward to Friday’s enduro so the battle between Group Three and OPM could rage on. Then an all-day meeting got called with a potential investor. Ugh.
I’m currently taking bids for Saturday Lightning race “assistance”. So far Patton has offered the back 1/2 of one of his 14 E30 shells, Walsh volunteered Scott to work on one of my cars, and Lako said he would throw in some “foot work” whatever that means. I’m waiting for Fred’s offer but I’m afraid it will unearth some memories that should stay repressed. Who else needs me to run interference for them?
DeVinney was astute to find us the printed rule. Thanks, Steve.
Looks to me like there is only a 39 point difference between the two racers for second place.
Should be an exciting race on Saturday as David is always fast at RA and I’m always good for a mid-pack finish.
RP
Also, look at the group that will be racing ror the 4 and 5 positions.
Smith (will Sumpter be at RA?)
Palacio
Parkhurst
Interesting…
Sorry about that, after correctly refiguring the points, inclusive of 3 drops per competitor (which assumes the top few are all planning to race this weekend), and also considering the Walsh DQ from March to be droppable, the totals are:
[ul]
[li]Lako 1270[/li]
[li]Patton 1147[/li]
[li]Walsh 1108[/li]
[li]Sumpter 960[/li]
[li]Eric P 938[/li]
[li]Laura 932[/li]
[li]Fred 857[/li]
[li]Damion 831[/li]
[li]TPP aka Pissant 789[/li]
[li]Julio 725[/li]
[/ul]

You’ll need a lot more help than what DeVinney can provide…
Okay, then how about something to keep you from running into the back of me…if you get close enough?
