SE Rookie List

I completely agree with Robert as to CMP being the best track for your first race. I chose CMP as my first race, partly for the reasons Greg mentioned and partly because it doesn’t have a lot of blind areas.

I’m glad to see that at least one person plans on starting at CMP. That’ll mean I won’t be the only one on the track with rookie marks…

Man it is exciting to see how the SE Spec E30 ranks are growing. Mediorce or not we would crush the Mid Atlantic in a gang fight!

#23

and wait until we get the spec tent and flag, that will really start bringing them in.

#24

Yep, would like to my echo my good wishes to the rookies-under-construction that are currently building out their car and/or resume.

I know a bunch of you are in or near Atlanta, and there’s already a lot of racers here, so if you need help or have a question/need a photo, etc. just ask up. Pretty friendly group indeed! We’ve also got the Augusta area covered really well, and there’s a couple guys in Macon with cars (David Walsh and Steve Lako).

CMP is only 5 short weeks away! Get busy!

David, speaking of Lako, is he going to to go for his license in 2009?

#25

You guys talked me into it. All signed up for Comp School at CMP:woohoo:

It better not rain that Friday!!!

#26

Craig, besides the ‘6th place trophy’, I think a ‘12th place plate’ would be nice so that the back pack cruisers would have something to shoot for.

Backpackers are shooting for the “I wasn’t last” bragging right.

We should relook this whole approach of awarding honors to those that do well. It’s entirely out of step with today’s “equality of result” society. Can’t we all just get participation ribbons? That would be so much more fair and supportive of our self esteem needs.

Dang. Makes me cringe to even joke about that crap.

It rained the weekend I went through the Panoz school. If you are looking at it as a school, there’s no better teacher than rain. Just don’t do anything stupid and you look like a hero!

I think I decided on CMP, less concrete, lots more runoff room. Plus I will be able to call all the other rookies noobs at RA :stuck_out_tongue:

epalacio do you have the black car, built your own cage?

Greg[/quote]

Ok, I’m getting advice and pressure to drop the idea of comp school at Road Atlanta and do it at CMP for the same reason you did. I just placed a $800 order with Pegasus racing for fire bottles, decals, transponder, etc. I’ll just need a driving suit and I’ll have it all, except for balls of steel.

I just looked at Ranger’s spreadsheet and you will need McMaster-Carr part number 9528K71
(E52100 Alloy Steel Ball 2" Diameter, Grade 50, $19.78 Each).

I’m here to help.

No I have the white car and had TRM build my cage. They did an excellent job.

This sounds suspiciously like another case of a sole supplier of a Spec e30 part. I protest!

Chuck,
Im in for 2009 comp school but should I wait until RA since I have no experience at CMP?

#36

We are going to need a rookie section in the spec E30 paddock:cheer:

My $0.02…

Sounds like there will be several E30s at CMP. There will be good camraderie, but more urge to get all racy. That’s bad. Comp School isn’t about showing them how fast you are, they just want to know you are safe and situationally aware.

To me, CMP was an easy track to pick up because there’s really only one fast turn that is kind of blind (unlike Road Atlanta where everything is blind). You can still get hurt at CMP but there is a lot of runoff room in most places.

If you go to school with a lot of other E30s, there is a better chance someone will have the part (and/or expertise) you need if you break.

Good luck at whichever school you choose!

We’ll likely be paddocked with a crowd in the grass along the pit wall, between the exit of 17 and the garages and off to the left after you come over the bridge. White car with red/black/gold graphics splashed along the hood, roof and truck lid. We’re just racing the sprints on sat/sun, but we’ll be rolling in Wed evening so we can spend thurs & fri getting in some quality social time
See ya there! (And keep your fingers crossed for lots of sun this year, it was too damn windy last year!)

For those with no CMP experience, there is an open track day on Thursday put on by Turn 1.

You can use that day to familiarize yourself to the track.

I added some of these to my build sheet : http://www.craigballsales.com/balls-prod/aisi-304-stainless-steel-balls.html with a note of “Get the largest ones you can find”
