We are considering using a Stack tacho to replace the factory tach (dont’ ask why, that’s not the point). I think I know the answer but I’m wondering if I can remove the stock instrument cluster in order to place the Stack in that place…along with other gauges (water temp, oil temp, oil pressure). Is this allowed? Thanks.
Rules question - Stack tacho
Tach and instruments are legal. Removing dash isn’t specifically allowed.
Bummer…those CF dash panels look so cool…

Sorta what I figured, never hurts to ask though. Perhaps I’ll just relocate the stock cluster to the right a bit. I just don’t want to mount the tacho on top of the dash, I don’t like things that obstruct my vision of the track. I’ll figure something out. Thanks!

Remember guys, if the Rules don’t say you can change something from how it came from the factory, you can’t do it. And there is nothing in the Rules that says you can move/remove/change the stock cluster.

And we’re not real picky about where members post questions, comments, etc. We just want to keep it somewhat organized.

Carter[/quote]I know there are always differences of opinions, and rules are there for the good of the group. That being said, my question is;
If the Stack data acquisition system enables the use of an replacement cluster, by design, and no secondary funtion is performed, and no competitive advantage gained by the replacement of the stock cluster with an aftermarket cluster which interfaces to the data acquisition system, why is this not permissible under 6.10, 9.3.13.13, and 9.3.13.20. The later supporting the modification by permitting removal of other interior components.
The imaginary example of another justification would be a gauge cluster failing. Would I need to replace it with OEM, or could an aftermarket unit of equal function with no secondary function be installed?
A similar rule in existance is "9.3.13.3.1. Vehicles with integrated bumper assemblies may use aftermarket front one-piece bumper/spoiler unit, provided the original crash bar is maintained."
I know I am not a driver yet, and there’s been mention of non-drivers making the most noise. Call this a suggestion from a outside person looking in, and do with it as you will I guess I am pointing out that this is a Spec series, not a stock one, so maybe I am too analytical, but I don’t understand why it wouldn’t be permitted.
(I also don’t need to understand, I just need to build my darn car!)
