Rule Change Request - Ignition Coils

#1

I request a rule change for Ignition Coils to be made open.

From an operating stand point it makes sense that since ignition coils do not directly effect timing or any other operating factor other then delivering the spark that Igntion coils should be made open.

From a cost stand point "aftermarket" ignition coils are generally lower in cost and better made then OE ignition coils.

This is just my opinion and I hope other will weigh in with theirs.

I do realize that this rule, if enacted, would probably be made into effect next year.

Thank you for your consideration.

I don’t see it specifically mentioned in the rules about replacing the ignition coil with an OEM BMW part but I seriously doubt that anyone is going to protest you if you use an oem equivelant part like this Bosch coil for $44

Coils haven’t been a problem so we’ll leave it alone.

I agree. I’ve not heard of coil failures being common. Junkyards are full of coils you can probably get for $10 a piece or less. Not something that wears out, really.

Factory BMW coils are actually quite excellent.

As are the vast majority of Original BMW Parts.
