RR - sunday oil on track

#1

In lieu of the $150 Damion says I owe him, I’ll again offer my apologies for ‘f-ing’ up the plan for Sunday’s race. I’m glad they found a way to get everyone out there. Not an auspicious beginning.

For the record - and to anyone that didn’t already hear this. Apparently when I got on the gas to come out on track

Numbers 14,15, 16, and 17 decided they weren’t ready to race and wanted to stay in the pits. As those pieces are all that keep 5qts of oil in the engine that was it. Car was fine until a little past the entry to turn 1. I didn’t notice any oil and there wasn’t any smoke or other indications until the oil pressure light on the dash went off. I flicked that twice in disbelief and hoping that it was a problem with the light. No dice. I shut it down and got of the track and coasted over to the corner station.

Optimistic that the motor is okay and that with a quick $5 part I’ll be back in the game.

They told me they noticed when I left the pits, but before they could radio to black flag me I was already off the track. Thank god that didn’t happen at Barber or my race budget would be done for the year.

Thanks to everyone for the sympathy, ball busting, and to Patton for looking around for a spare part.

Small edit Patton also pointed out that I don’t know how to work Real OEM either. I "think" this is the right link -

Maybe part number 7?

It is bothersome that, after all of the hybe, you didn’t get to complete your first race. Just glad to hear that the engine is okay and that goober Geiger’s problem was nothing major. In both cases it confirms that stuff hapens.

Get a group together and come over to Rockingham in June for probably the last event that NASA does at that track.

Regards, Robert Patton

Robert, why is NASA pulling out of Rockinham? Jim: you need more REALOEM search time. I gotta geta new job, working all these saturdays are killing my track time.

In my version of a perfect world I wouldn’t even know that Real OEM exists. Unfortunately that version of reality conflicts with owning a 15+ year old "race" car.

Look at the bright side–now there are 17 other guys in SpecE30 who know who you are. Talk about instant acquaintances!

You gotta admit, that was a pretty memorable way to make your rookie splash, and really sorry that after all you’ve been going through to get to your first race grid, it all went bad.

Kudos to the NASA-SE gang for recovering and adjusting the schedule in a way that seemed pretty fair to all.

I think it was a good thing we were shortened from 40 mins down to 30, because I don’t think I could have kept the Reverend Al and Laura Lou in the 911 behind me for much longer!

I think that was just a lame excuse. It’s like wussing out the lap before the checker and saying that your fire bottle deployed. Weak.

It would appear that Indy Rock Jim dodged the preverbial bullet. He did in fact shut down his motor before any damage was done . We got rid of the the filter housing with the lines to the cooler topped up the motor with oil brought it up to temp and no noise , Jim came to town today and tempted the cops driving up and down Freedom P-way and all is well.

We’re getting out of Rockingham because it just doesn’t draw a crowd. I have a very hard time getting enough insturctors to show up to teach the school part. From what we’ve heard from people, it’s just not a track that people want to go to. We’ll come up with something better though.
