It sounds like there isn’t a starvation problem in both single and dual pump cars when the pumps are working properly. Install a new in-tank pump (yours is a later car, yes?) and run it at Rockingham. If there’s still a problem, let me know.

Carter, Good deal, I can’t really rule out a problem with the existing pump without changing and trying the OEM replacement first. That is the plan and I will be happy to let you know how it works out. Thanks to all for the suggestions.

I also had a maddening starvation problem at VIR in Feb, late single pump system, after 10 laps it would start to sputter in hogpen, then get progressively worse. The pump seemed to be OK, but I replaced it with another used one and have not had a problem since…

Kelly,

I owe you an apology for my (apparently) ill-informed post on the 1st page – I didn’t realize that there is a Chuck Taylor racing in NASA SE… nor did I realize that Al Taylor (to whom I thought you were referring) was racing in the vintage event at VIR.

Sorry.

It was still a funny/clever post even if it was misguided.

To sum up It looks like it’s best that we have a few pumps replaced with new OEM. Run them through a few races /various tracks and report back. If that eliminates the problem then we know fuel pumps have a limited service life.
