[quote]Recap of my weekend:

Race 1 - boring for me. I qualified 9th and
ran by myself the entire race.

Race 2 - at the start I finally convinced myself that I had to go flat out through the banking and I just gritted my teeth and did it. I had fun racing with Travis and IndyJim but my race ended prematurely when I mangled a bottle cap wheel on the exit of 3 (same place JP killed the Konig in race 4). I’ve got video of this race and will post later.

Race 3 - see video
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8241411154806401896&hl=en

Race 4 - Kind of boring race again for me. Raced with IndyJim for a little while - I passed him and then he passed me back. Shortly afterward I started dropping back due to fuel pickup problems in turn 4. At least a half dozen time the car would totally die in the turn - time for a fuel pump.

Overall, a fun weekend! I got some great experience and enjoyed some moments of close racing.

Nice video! Thanks for posting it. Man what was the acura thinking towards the end of the video? I thought you were gonna collect him. What a bad move on his part. Nice driving though!

He was trying to get into the pits - He got stuck on the outside through turn 7 and I guess he decided there was enough of a gap to sneak into the pits. It definitly made for an exciting moment since I realized I had to swerve at the same moment I was shifting…

I’ll also add that based on Laura’s driving in the second race that I’m suspicious she may have given me the pass on lap 2.

I’m not sure what I did wrong to cut the end of the last lap off, but considering last night was the first time I had ever downloaded a video to the computer, edited it using WMM, and then uploaded it to Google, I thought it was OK. I got to spend some time playing around with WMM but that will have to wait until after the second car comes to life!

Nice videos and good driving guys! As usual, it was another great Southeast weekend. After taking a day to recover, I realize that for once, JP might be right…I was kinda slow…he actually finished ahead of me in one of the races. Canterbury got fast, Indy Jim was fast, Pallister (one AWESOME new E30) and E.Davidson both shaved significant times off of what they started with, so did Scott, Al was mixing it up, Laura was fast, Robert=fast, Skeen=fast, and M. Davidson finally got the monkey off of his back with 2 wins! BIG Congrats Mike!! Somehow I managed to stay in the top 5 all weekend with Robert whoopin me by 10 ft for the win on Saturday(after Skeen and Davidson were out of the picture). When it was all said and done, Malt Liquor Tech whooped up on Beer Tech…again.:stuck_out_tongue: See ya at CMP.

Well, as for my weekend, all the races are starting to run together. I can’t remember what’s what.

Race 1: JP and I had a great time battling it out for 3rd. He used his "racecraft" to keep me behind him successfully for the remainder of the race. While I’m disappointed I couldn’t pull off a third place, JP and I had an awesome time and he deserves it. Way to go JP.

Race 2: Don’t really remember much of this one except I ended up sixth.

Race 3: I was asleep. You can see such in Canterbury’s video. I don’t know what I was doing. Fortunently, I finished the race which is what really matters, but I was just asleep behind the wheel. Then the 10 minutes of pace laps for an accident didn’t help. Oh well, I’ll try harder next time.

Race 4: I was smiling from ear to ear when I got out of the car. Davidson and I had it out for a majority of the race battling for first. I had the best time racing against him and am proud of him and myself for our finishes. I could not have asked for a better end to a weekend. And, to top it off, I beat dad! There is no better victory because now I beat him fair and square and not because of a technicality like in our BMWCCA race. Sorry dad, should have let you have it on father’s day!

Looking forward to CMP now. All I can say is I’m feeling good, so everyone better bring their "A" Game.

The ROCK report:

Travis hurled Friday night, one of the AI/cmc drivers dog ate most of it and got drunk. I was awakened at 5am by a murder of crows fighting over the remains of the hurl.

I have also washed my headsock.

Canterbury is high maintainence.

I think the rock and CMP are 2 tracks where it helps if it rains.

Ok, here is what I remember

First race started 6th was up to 3rd when I had to brake hard to avoid Mike D, resulting spin put me back to last, but got a good view of everyones car. Worked back to 5th at the finish, no way to get by the Laura and JP battle.

Second race, started 6th again ended up 3rd somehow, cant remember too many details.

Sunday morning, realize that I dont really have any tires left, luckily we have a long caution, finished 4th.

1 hour enduro, started somewhere in the back, was a good start, work up to first. Combination of dead tires, gas fumes and back spasms and I think I ended up 5th. If I had just waited for Laura to catch Mike before I started falling back it may have been different. The inverted start was a good idea as it gives good experiance to people that will help us all.

Overall my car is the fastest thru the infield, not really sure why. The AI/CMC guys out partied us saturday night, we got to tighten up!

My Rockingham recap:
Race 1; Started third. Watched Skeen and Davidson play chicken at wall at the entry to the infield. Watched Skeen have brake trouble and Davidison go off roading. Ended up first with Travis hot on my tail. It used to be easy to win when there was only a field of me, myself, and I. I now have to rely on the misfortune of others…Looking in my rearview, Laura Patton gets fourth. Go girl…very respectable.

Race 2; Same Skeen and Davidson show at the entry wall. While they were dicing on the inside I almost made it past them on the outside. Almost. It used to be easy to win. Skeen takes race 2.

Race 3: I dont’remember much about this one except that Mike Davidson gets his first win. Congratulations Mike! I remember a day when it used to be easy to win.

Race 4: Can’t forget this one as we did an inverted start for the 55 minute enduro. Starting from the rear, I had a great start (watch Skeens video) and was first by lap one. But others can use my misfortune as my rear tire lost air as the dunb driver hit a rumble strip too hard. From hero to zero…
I went to the garage and changed the tire.I rejoined the pack seven laps later behind Laura and Mike Davidson and watched them race for 20-30 minutes. And what a race they had. I had nothing for them. I tried to push Laura but could not get close enough to do so…It used to be easy to win…Congratulations to Mike for his second win. Important to me, Laura has arrived! A second place finish and a fourth place in the weekend. Good job girl.

Others learned som great racecraft as we did some fun things at the Rock. Maybe NASA SE will consider one race per year at the Rock.

What do you think?

Regards, Robert Patton

We all learned some great racecraft (you can’t pass on the apron in turn two, you can on the front straightaway) as we did some fun things at the Rock. Jim, Ed, Steve, Scott, and Dave all picked up speed throughout the weekend. Regulars JP Al, and Travis can all join me in saying that the competition for position is better and the clean racing is fun. Hey, it is rewarding to do well with this group of racers.Maybe NASA SE will consider one race per year at the Rock.

Man, you guys have got me all juiced up - maybe I’ll have to make the trip to the Rock next year (woman, potential house, and budget willing)…sounds like it was a blast!

Congrats Mike D! I was shocked to read that this was your first win - I could have sworn that you had taken it down in the past … it certainly won’t be the last.

We’re gonna keep the good times rolling at HYPERFEST!!! OOOH YEAH!!

Robert -
I would definitely go back to The Rock. It was a blast. Short, but between the corkscrew and the high banking, and the competition, it was definitely worth trip for us.

Thanks man, yea these were the first two wins for me. I’ve come close a couple of times before but hadn’t got one. We won’t make it to hyperfest but we’ll be at VIR.

As we can all see, the Spec E30 competition is getting stronger in the Southeast. Just like in the Mid Atlantic, any finish in the top half of the field is strong.

And it’s interesting to see how some drivers did well in certain races and others did well in other races…at the same track and during the same weekend.

Congratulations to the entire field for racing hard and keeping it clean.

Interesting news. I had fun, but getting there is no fun. May not make a difference on what NASA plans to do for next yet but you never know.

We talked to Pantas quickly on Sat. He indicated replacement by some track in Jacksonville Keystone? And the new track they’re building in NC (can’t recall the name).
