Road Atlata Race Results

Allen,

The dyno pulls were done in 4th gear. From looking at the dyno sheets, it looks like 6k rpm yields 96 mph. How does this compare to your car?

A good motor (not a race built) will make more than that. A built motor will make a good bit more than that. Check to make sure that you don’t have a 4.10 diff.

There is a tag on the diff with the ratio but they can be mislabeled. It’s not hard to calculate though.

jack up the rear of the car, put it in neutral, and count the # of driveshaft revolutions it takes to equal one exact revolution of the wheels.

If your car is that week on power and were still able to put distance on every other car in the backstretch that has higher dyno numbers that I smell a 4.10 rear. ;)[/quote]

Richard’s car was light on the order of 150lbs. That might be a better explanation as to how the fish car was getting away from folks. Richard was very upfront about the weight issue. He just got the car, and RA was his first chance to weigh it.

Richard, if you were shifting to 5th gear at approx the black flag station, then you’ve got the right diff. You were going faster then me so I was shifting about 40yds after the station. So maybe you were shifting right at it. With a 4.10 you’d be shifting a fair amount before the BF station. DeVinney can probably state with more accuracy.

That’s no slam on Steve. I mean who else would know?

I put a mark on a tire and put wife in charge of counting wheel revs. Then I got under the car and rotated the driveshaft 20X. Wives aren’t too good with fractions or decimals, but they can handle cardinal #'s like 4, 5, 6. 4.23 would equal, for example, “Four and oh I don’t know. Do I really have to do this? Can I go back in now”?

Here’s Richard’s dyno chart. BTW, we need to come up with a nickname for him or something. His username of richard.bratton is lame. How 'bout “Fish”? [file name=22_june_10_pull_4_Small.jpg size=87448]http://spece30.com/media/kunena/attachments/legacy/files/22_june_10_pull_4_Small.jpg[/file]

Or we could call him “Dick”. That’s kinda catchy.

#47

Or Fish Dick. Kind of like Fish Stick but different.

#48

or there is always Big Tuna:laugh:

And yes, DeVinney “knows” about 4.10’s.

Hmm.

The 2008 adventure was almost getting kicked out of NASA for buzzing the tower at Roebling.

The 2009 adventure was drawing down on my cute little neighbor as she glared at me out of the darkness.

I worry what this year might bring.

My math says 100 mph on a 4.10.

As he was disappearing down the back straight, I was thinking “Tuner Fish” but that might be a little cerebral for the TeddyM3’s out there.

Data says that Fred and I are shifting at 106-108mph at RA on the back stretch. That’s probably 6100-6200rpms. What’s the rev limiter at, 6400?

Ya, could be the wrong diff. $300 for a used diff, and an evening’s work will knock that right out.

Richard’s dyno is information, just like the NorCal dynos are information.

Here’s more information: the taxi and Geiger were the strongest on the dyno at Balanced Performance when a GROUP OF US ALL TESTED ON THE SAME DAY ON THE SAME DYNO (December 2008).

We were at 160/160.

It’s doubtful that fishman’s (cute nickname) dyno would come up 12hp or more.I’d say the engine is good and extend my thanks from the group to Richard for getting it checked-out.Throw some weight in the car and make nice the little goober details and come race with us. Looks from the results that you’ll be running well.

Are you guys talking gps speed numbers. My speedo must be off quite a bit. I was hitting between 115 and 120 before braking and I never shifted into 5th unless I was on a cool down lap.

Nice video from an Android phone. Disappointed there was no air fuel reading though.

When I ran Road Atlanta I didn’t shift into 5th either. I also would hit the rev limiter just before braking for turn 1 at Roebling in 4th gear. I only shifted to 5th when I got to draft a car down the front stretch. I was only in HPDE1 though, haha.

Check your diff. You can’t go that fast in 4th with a 3.73 and OEM rev limiter.

If you come out of turn 9 with decent speed, you’ll have to shift to 5th a fair amount before the tower. It takes some time to build confidence for a fast 9 tho.

When you get T12 right you’ll hit 5th a near the half way point on the front straight. Fifth on the back straight will happen well before the black flag station.
