Road Atlanta Results

The world of SE30 awaits your write-up from the Road Atlanta event.
(Truthfully, I’m always entertained by your write-ups.)

Got any stories?

Fred was 2nd in Saturday’s race and paid hansomely for his podium finish later that day at the bar. Congratulations, Fred and to Richard Bratton who was first on all accounts, poles and races, all weekend.

PS… I was SEVENTH! (a reference to the infamous video a few year’s ago)

Congrats to Bratton for his wins and Switzer for a good run Saturday. Special thanks to Olivier for letting me drive the 114 in replace of the 113. I chickened out Saturday with the moisture and finished 5th but ran better Sunday to finish 3rd after a good exchange with Espinosa whom drove well and is sure to be a regular at the Podium. Congrats to all. Got to work but will get some video up as soon as possible.

I had a REALLY good time on Saturday (including Saturday night)… But the monsoon rains did make it interesting:

I had a great weekend. I got to sit on the front row for the Saturday race starting 2nd, but my lack of recent dry laps on the track really showed as I got schooled in turn 1 what felt like every lap. I was able to hold on to 8th. My slow dry pace really showed in qualifying on Sunday starting 13th, but I was able to find another second on the track compared to qualifying and if I could have put the 3 sectors together I had a 01:48.4 in me, but I was able to move up to 10th. I will hopefully have my videos up tonight.

Ol’ humble Fred… I showed up Sunday and had to hear from Patton that Fred was 2nd on Saturday!! WTG, pal!!

For those who don’t know him, Fred has really stepped up his game in the last couple years.

I was busy being a Spec Miata points whore but had the pleasure of starting behind the SE30s. By the way, Stroup, you lost your right front brake duct somewhere in the first couple laps of the race. I remember thinking “I wonder what’s dragging from…” about the time it broke free. Once it was in the sun it was easily identifiable.

Thanks to Walsh for the bump draft down the back straight!! Luckily, my Miata nemesis broke a couple laps from the end cuz I was having a tough time keeping up between 7 and 10a. I Rangered a new head onto my Miata and developed a bit of a miss during the race. And Evan Levine’s 2011 Toyos probably aren’t the fastest tire out there. I’m trying like hell to get through this season on one set of new tires and a bunch of leftovers from last year.

I need to make some money…

Great weekend! I’m glad the sun came out and we got to put some dry laps in. Driving with the standing water was rather unsettling. Congrats to everyone for having a relatively drama free weekend. Most importantly, congrats to Ranger for finishing the weekend happy with the performance of his engine. How long can he go without swaping it out?

Video to follow this weekend…

From where I was sitting Brandon drove a great race on Sunday - I thought I had something for him but I couldn’t catch him. (Darn it!)

p.s. Thanks for the kind words Steve!

Thanks to Walsh for the bump draft down the back straight!![/quote]
I almost gave you a bump draft on the back straight Sunday but backed off instead. We were really hauling ass and if we screwed up the bump you’d have ended up smacking into the wall at >110mph right at the black flag tower and I’d a been DQ’d for life.

Instead I backed off the gas and tried to signal you that I wasn’t going to contest 10a. I figured if you could get a really good 10a and b, that would be enough to keep you ahead of me for good.

I knew I was forgetting to thank someone. Thanks, Scott. That was a completely unnecessary and very much appreciated “breathe” of the throttle. It must have been all the beer I’ve plied you with in the past couple years.

Congrats on a clean weekend with a happy engine!

Crazy weekend for me. I don’t own a set of rain tires so no qualifying for me on Sat. Started like 14th or 15th. I feel like a I drove really well in the race and got to 4th by the end of it.

Sunday qaulified 4th. I suck at qualifying but I race pretty well. I got to second by lap 2 and was closing the gap on rich when the full course yellow came out. On the restart Lako got a great start thanks to the radio. Sandro was behind me and looked like he was really about to do something stupid so I gave a lot room to make sure he did take us and the rest of the field behind us out. I gave a little too much room and ran wide going up the hill. Once you are on the damp grass you become a passenger. I looped it a couple times and got back on track dead last in spec e30. I think I got up to 7th or 8th by the end.

I love telling Damion that “in order to finish first you must first finish.” After the spin Damion was driving hard for the NINTH place in finishing order.

Thanks to all for a great weekend! Learned a LOT! Fell asleep at the start Sat but still had a great race with Sumpter Smith, and Sun Lako and I had an Epic run (loved it). Really enjoy this series, don’t matter where you are, you are going to have a great time racing somebody… Awesome! I stayed till late Sunday and picked up Michael Harness’ shoes and chair (shoot me a message, I could drop them off) sandrof1(at)msn.com

Those would be mine. Thanks for grabbing them.

Here is a video from the black flagged 1st attempt at qualifying on Saturday.
