Motor:

Engine:

My engine is illegal because I added a couple motors to it

Who was it that accused someone of having an illegal “motor”? Oh wait don’t answer that it was a stupid question!!

It was good seeing everyone this weekend. It has me motivated to get my car back on track.

All engines are motors. But not all motors are engines.

Steve, cut to the chase:

Anyone that finishes ahead of me has more motor or they’re cheating. Those behind are extremely talented, just not as talented as I am.

PS where is/do/did these new guys come from with so much talent? Evan, fast out of the box.
Peterman, new to RA and giving us fits
Tower, racing for positions and moving up fast
Wooten,still getting the car dialed-in

PS - I’ve been the highest finishing silver/red/black Spec E30 in every race I have entered. Am I allowed to parse the results down to the point where I am undefeated, too?

Does it make you feel better to minimalize my victory?

I was very surprised to see your car out on track for the Lightning race after seeing it in the grass looking like it overheated in the immediately prior HPDE1 session that I was running in. I guess that clears it up since you brought 2 cars.

I will be signed up for the June race. Finally have most of the demons out of the car. Only took 2 years several mechanics and 4 motors. LOL Thank goodness for Chuck Baader. It will be my first ever Spec E30 race and only my third race ever. The two previous races were with PBOC at Barber’s just because I live in Birmingham. Only been to RA twice and so I will ask A LOT of questions to those willing enough to share with a newbie. I really can’t wait to race with yall because PBOC is just not that much fun because there is no one to race with. I can’t hang with the radical’s and viper challenge cars. LOL Well, I look forward to meeting everyone and putting faces with names and screen names. ALLEN

Nothing makes me feel better. But I am working with my therapist on that.

But which victory are we talking about? From the abuse I get from Geegar and IndyJim, I think it’s generally accepted to minimize any victory (a) by me and/or (b) in a field of <10 cars.

Don’t feel bad. My only two wins were as a result of screw-ups by the guy who shoulda won.

I was sitting on the grid when I saw the red flag come out. Somehow I knew it was her. At first I thought it was a drill but when I saw the E-trucks leaving pit road……

On the pace lap, they radioed to me that she was ok but the car had caught fire.
They said the car had filled with so much smoke that she couldn’t see going into 10a.
Her instructor pulled the fire system, the car filled with white foam and water, she got it to a controlled stop in the gravel and they bailed.

After the race, her instructor told me it had made a crackling sound from under the dash and then they heard a loud explosion followed by intense smoke from the drivers side floor. After a min, I remembered that I never covered the hole in the firewall when I pulled out the heater core (a reason to plug all the holes in the “FIRE” wall). We opened the hood still thinking electrical fire based on the description and guess what…….
The upper radiator hose had blown past the clamp. Assuming it was just loose, we added water and a new clamp and had her ready for her next sessions. It made it through the rest of the day but unfortunately it blew a head gasket as she brought it in for the last one. I’m guessing the “crackling sound “ he heard was really spark knock as the car was starting to run hot. Now to figure out if the chicken or the egg came first, did the head gasket blow because the radiator hose blew off or did something cause the high pressure on the hose related to the head gasket failing?

I thought it was a great introduction to driving for her, and what great stories she now has for the socialite / soccer moms!

It probably happened due to some photocosmic chemical reaction with the Twelve Thousand horsepower former space shuttle cheater engine and the Water Wetter I had installed.

Thread hijack.

David, been there, done that…at RA to boot.
Left hose clamp loose, lost water, and blowed up (later, at least) a perfectly good junkyard engine. The best on the dyno that I’ve owned.

We added water to it and it ran for another 2 or 3 events. The head gasket never failed…but it did develop this bad rod knock noise. From your description it sounds like you may best be served with another engine?

How was Victor Kelly, the instructor dude?

Thanks for the earlier kind comments.

We pulled the head off Tuesday and found it was warped. Theres absolutely no water in the oil and the cylinder walls look good. My plan was to put a spare head on it see what happened. Now I am second guessing…

As far as Victor, he was an excellent instructor with great communication skills. My wife has severe hearing problems and he was able to communicate very well even with the added noise of the car. Additionally, both Steve and I commented on how conscientious he was to be on time - every time.

One of my first driving instructors was Gordon Friedman, owner of Autometrics. I have always credited Gordon with opening my eyes on what driving was all about. Once I rode with Gordon, I had a completely different perspective about what a car could handle and what I was suppose to be doing with it. Victor did the same for Laura. After a session or 2, he asked to drive the car himself(then got a pass for a higher run group) and let her ride along. I think all instructors should do this, especially for green students.

Finally, as it turned out I think he was calm under pressure with what they thought was a fire. He had some sort of crazy military training where they blind folded him, pushed him out of a helicopter into a burning lake and he had to find his way out, so I guess pulling the fire system and waiting in the car to make sure she was out first was no big deal.

To get this back on track, what’s up with no results on Mylaps? Checked this afternoon and nothing posted. Are there a lot of challenges or something?

And don’t knock on guys that spend money on their cars. Some of us have to try and make up for the lack of talent. It helps to a certain extent, then I still run out of talent.
