I have a proposal for the Southeast Spec E30 flag…

#22

So you guys lack nuts, not necessarily a good thing.

#23

Ha… that’s a good point. Maybe we should have a slogan “keep your nuts to yourself” or something.

My clips from Saturday’s race are on Vimeo.

You will quickly learn that I really need to get used to E30 shift points. I’m such a moron. I didn’t calculate the gear-rpm-ground speed chart to see when it is advisable to downshift. At least you can tell I’m not running some redline-free cheater ECU!

Rookie mistakes for sure.

Seriously! For awhile there I thought you were running a fuel conservation strategy. I’ve never spent that much time in 5th gear at RA, ever.

Great race waiting for the inevitable mistakes to happen.

Here’s the Sunday race from my car:

You also don’t seem to be running a 3.73 diff either unless something is really wrong with that video. Am I confused?

#28

Here’s the Sunday race from the 401. Fun stuff at 2:20, 4:35 marks.

Fans of the Ford GTs will like the 10:00 mark

Brian Jones might want to scan down to the 25:00 and 30:00 marks when he and I have a go.

#29

Steve, great video. Was this car an automatic before it turned racer? Your shift points are sure alot different than mine.

Steve looks like you have a 4.10 in the car to me. Might want to check that. You can check it yourself by checking the revolutions of the driveshaft compared to the wheels.

It was an automatic before the build. I thought it had a 3.73 diff (didn’t all 1989 325is cars come with that diff?), but I did notice I wasn’t shifting at the same points as some.

Hmmmmm. I guess this clinches my decision to have Brendan rebuild a diff for me!?!

During the race I was like damn he is really pulling away quickly in some places, now I know why. That’s a huge advantage. In the video you can just see how the car pulls up the hill in turn 1 in 4th while the rest of us lugg it up the hill. The car is about to hit the rev limit in 5th on the back straight. Steve did you go to Nationals with that same diff in the car? If so, wow!

#33

in 87 autos came with a 3.73 every year after that the stock diff in an auto was the 4.10. Easy way to check crawl under the car, and on the right side of the diff there is about a 2 inch metal tag which will have the diff ratio stamped onto it.

#34

Yup - this is the way the car has been since we finished it just before Nationals. I had no idea. :frowning:

But as the driver I am responsible for bringing a legal car. I apologize to all my competitors.

Thanks for the info. The spec sheet I was using was on E30world.com. It, evidently, has bad info. And I never crawled under the finished car to look at the diff tag.

Doh!

At least you have not won any races with that diff. If third place gets toyo bucks you might have to give those up! I will trade you a working 3.73 for your 4.10

I’ll definitely give up the Toyo bucks. I just hope I didn’t screw up anyone’s points race. :frowning:

And I would happily trade you for a 3.73!

send me an email gregm at moberggroup dot com and we can make a deal. A 4.10 is worth a little more than a 3.73, we can work out the details though

That’s what my car (also an 89is auto) had when I bought it.

That explains the serious bump draft at the start of the race you gave me too!

Steve, The 4:10 rear end is worth a tidy sum. You should do well with it on ebay. Thanks for coming clean, apology accepted.
