Rewiring Fuse for Blower Motor

#1

The fuse for my blower motor melted damaging the fuse box. Apparently this happens due to a faulty blower motor, so I replaced the blower motor and resistor. I installed an external fuse holder for the blower motor fuse. I spliced the green/brown wire going to the fuse box to the external fuse holder, but am not sure where to connect the other wire. I attached it to a screw on the under side of the fuse box, but that caused the blower to work even with the car off. Does anyone have any information on how to wire this up? Thanks.

I know…I’m not ready to give up my ac just yet.

the Links, E30 Resources section here has a link to electrical troubleshooting manuals
http://wedophones.com/BMWManualsLead.htm

which can be used to see where that wire should go. It is either to a ground point or a 12v source.
thanks,

I think I would pick up power for the blower from the circuit for the rear window defogger. That is a switched circuit rated for at least 30a.

Thanks. I think I’m going to try the cigarette lighter which is also a 30amp fuse.

Ok. That won’t work. The cigarette lighter, fuse 28, is hot with the key off. I tapped into 17, which is also a 30 amp fuse and is for the windows. Blower motor now works.
