Required Decals

#1

Thought I would put this together since the required decals are kinda all over the place and specified as different sizes between the CCR and Spec E30 rules. For the numbers I took the larger of the 2 rules.

CAR NUMBERS
Side Numbers
2 * The side numbers must be at least ten (10) inches tall with a one and a half (1.5) inch stroke

Front and Rear Numbers
2* The front and rear numbers must be at least five (5) inches tall

NAME DECALS
The driver or drivers’ last name shall be placed in block print white letters 3 inches tall centered on each rear quarter panel window and on the lower passenger side front windshield. The side window space is roughly 25 inches wide

FIRE EXTINGUISHER / System Required Decal
All cars must display one (1) “E” decal on the outside of the vehicle identifying the
location of the fire extinguisher. The decal should be placed closest to the entry point of
the vehicle where the fire extinguisher is most accessible from the outside. This decal
indicates to someone assisting the driver where the easiest access point is located. Car
builders should give careful consideration to this item. On vehicles with fire systems,
one (1) decal is required at the release button, as well as and one (1) on the outside of
the vehicle.

TOYO TIRES DECALS
Four "Toyo Tires" decals (2"x18" size) must be on the car. One decal must be placed on each side of the car as well as one on the front and one on the rear .

To order the toyo decals: call (according to the Team Toyo receptionist): (800) 678-3250 x1171 (Angela)

NASA DECALS
You must run 4 NASA decals one on front, back and sides. I believe you can get these when you get to the track.

SPEC E30 DECALS - Not Required
Contact Carter Hunt to get these decals. There are large and small sizes. He accepts paypal and will ship them to you. Alot of people run the large one at the top of the rear window.

good list, thanks

I would also include
-lightning bolt decal at the cutoff switch (required by 15.8)
-T in triangle near the transponder (probably an SCCA thing)

The minimum height of the side numbers is eight inches. The specific SpecE30 rules override the CCR.

Class Identification, minimum three inches tall are required near the side numbers.

I have added a "Decals" item to the FAQ.

Wrong!

18.1.1 Car Numbers
The vehicle must exhibit its assigned car number on both sides and front of the car. The
competitor is required, in most classes, to use NASA provided car numbers and
backgrounds for the sides. The competitor should consult their specific class rules. If
no car number requirements are listed, or NASA is temporarily unable to provide
numbers, then the following requirements shall be met:

I thought class id was no longer required because there is only one class. I might have dreamed that though

The SpecE30 rules require class identification and if they did not the NASA CCR’s do.

And if in Mid-Atlantic: bimmerworld

The GRM car has new number plates big enough for 10" numbers, but when I eMailed GRM about getting a set (article mentioned availability at online store) they weren’t available.

You just happened to speak to the only jar head in the office. So, I will see what I can get for you because all I have seen around here and the smaller ones. I don’t know if we had the ones on the Spec E30 made big or what.

I’ll let you know what I find out.

I was told by Chris Cobetto and Grumpy at annual tech this year that I had to have the Spec E30 class designated with a "SE30" decal on each side of the car with the numbers. I asked if they were sure and they confirmed that it was required. Maybe just a Mid Atlantic thing but I now have them.

#10

 I was told by Carter that class ID for SE30 is no longer required due to there being only one class now.

Ken, When were you told about the SE30 decals?
Do they have to be logos or any type/font will do?

#11

I wasn’t required the class (SE30)decals, but I applied the SO anyways.

Scott,
It was at the February race at VIR when I had my annual tech done. They didn’t specify the font but I used Arial Black in 3" letters. They did say that the class designation for Spec E30 was SE30.

Wow… that’s odd. I did my annual tech then too, and nobody said anything to me about it.

Good thing I’ve got the hook up on stickers.

#14

Scott, I’m in the same boat. Maybe the HUGE SpecE30 banners across our windows count?

our rules still require "SO", not sure where the written rule is that says there has to be an "SE30". It makes sense that there should be some series designation but it should be written as such.

All:

Due to the virtual non-existance of any SU Class cars, Mike and I agree that we will begin a phase-out of Spec E30 SU. This will make life easier for us, the NASA Regions and NASA National, and for the drivers.

Our initial plan is to make this 2006 season the last SU racing season and to drop the class (SO and SU) designations by Jan. 1, 2007.

this gray area and/or lack of updated rules is why I still bring a roll of racers tape to the track.

you are correct that the change hasn’t actually been made yet - that is just a news release. Presumably it will be replaced with a series designation (vs. class within the series)
