Can anyone advise as to the size and the weapon of choice to remove the collar nut on the manual trans output flange?
i’ve read the bentley, but still looking for suggestions from others that have removed this “nut”.
Thanks

I think it is 30mm or close. I got a big socket for something to do with GM and then ground down the end to fit in the hole. I think I got the socket at Sears.

Why didn’t I think of that???
I picked up a 30mm at Salvo Auto today and I am grinding away. . .
Thanks for the tips.

FWIW the Bentley says it’s 30mm, but when I went to take mine off (after finally getting my hands on a thin wall-deep socket) it felt loose, like it might’ve been a 29. I was fairly sleep deprived at this point and had more important things to get done on the car so I just left it, (was planning on replacing the seal). So I might’ve been imagining it was loose or I might have a weird one that’s 29 while the rest are 30 for some reason, just something to be aware of I guess.
pretty sure it is a 30, as I have never seen a 29mm
I ground down a cheapo flea market socket.
i found the 30 to be loose as well, but with impact gun it came off eventually. i bought a 30mm from Salvo for 12 bvucks and ground it down and it worked fine, but it was a loose fit. I thought a 29 mm would have been a better fit - but thats another story.
Thanks for the tips.

I just removed mine. I found a 30mm deep socket at Advance Auto that fit fine. It was a Gear Wrench brand socket, so it cost about $10. Not cheap for one socket, but probably beats the hassle of grinding down a cheap one.
