Rear view mirror

Anyone know how to remove the stock rear view mirror? Im hoping the windshield doesnt need to come out to remove it, but thats what it looks like to me. ???

Just grab the dam thing and pull it out . It is spring loaded.

It might be different for my car, but there was a small set screw. Then you could slide the mirror up and it came off. To get the mount off, use a heat gun and heat up the mount for a while and use a screw driver to pry it off.

Its an 87, the bracket that attaches to the actual mirror is metal and that goes to the roof. when I twist it i can hear metal to metal but it seems locked in place. I will look for a set screw.

On my 87 I used the yank it off method. There is a spring loaded pin inside put you don’t really have access to it. If you aren’t worried about breaking it, then just yank on it. I can take a picture of mine off the car if you would like.

That would be great if you can, thanks!

That I believe is how they are mounted. Everyone else, it’s spring-loaded, and very satisfying to yank out of the roof.

Enjoy.

87’s mirror is quite old, better to open that portion and remove the mirror or better to do it through mechanic.
