Rear toe/camber adjustment with the OEM bushings?

#1

Hello,

Took my 87 325is to my friends shop for a alignment after my tire wall incident at Summit point. I hit at the driver side front. Replaced all the front bits, and still have WAY too much camber. I need to visit a frame shop to pull the shock tower straight.

We have never looked at the rear since it’s not adjustable, but we decided to take a look. Turns out it has a lot of toe out on the right side and both wheels have -3 degrees camber. My car has the adjustments but, we weren’t able to get any wrenches on them without some work. I assume these are the adjustment bushings from BMW? Anyone know what all is needed to get to them?

thanks!

Get the adjustable rtabs. They require a thin wrench tho, and that can be a problem. If you are in a hurry, take the shop a cheap box end wrench, I forget the size, and tell them that if they don’t own a set of thin wrenches they can grind yours down.

If you’re not in a hurry, encourage the shop to get themselves some thin wrenches.

I have read that BMW did (does?) make adjustable rtabs, but I’ve never seen them.

Hopefully the 2010 CCR will allow us to get the Ireland rear camber/toe kit. I don’t have any experience with the kit, but I’ve got rear toe/camber problems too and would like to be allowed to at least try to fix it.

Yes. Someone else said that they were submitting it as a rule change, I don’t recall who.

I’m gonna try and work with what I have to save some $$$. Looks like I need to get a set of thin wrenches. The shop did grind down a wrench, but was still unable to get to the bolts.

Rear tow out in the wet was quite a experiance.
