Rear spring rubber pads

#1

As I am getting ready to do rear suspension, I have a question regarding rear spring rubber pads (those pads that go between spring retainers and spring ends). Is there a proper/correct thickness of the pad for the springs that we are running? Or did everyone just leave the pad in place as-is sort of speak. I ask because there are three rubber pad thicknesses (spl?) available from the factory (which correspond to original spring color codes).

Regards,
Igor

9.3.8.7.2 Spring pads may be removed.

According to the Spec E30 Rules, the spring pads may be removed but it doesn’t say they can be "substituted," "replaced," or "modified" which are all specifically defined in the Spec E30 Rules.

So, they must be either left as they came from the factory, or they can be removed completely.

If someone (the generic "someone," not you Igor) wants to take the time and spend the money to buy different sets so he can corner weigh the car to get the absolute best available corner weights, we probably will never know. But I seriously doubt that this will make any difference in a driver’s finishing position…but it will certainly lighten that driver’s wallet. Personally, I’d rather spend the money on new tires.

Another general statement to the group, because we have several new and future Spec E30 drivers; this is not an Engineering/tinkerer racing series. Spec E30 is designed to provide drivers with a place to build a cheap and reliable racecar and enjoy close racing.

This weekend I was instructing for the BMW CCA Street Survival teen driving program and several BMW CCA members offered many compliments to me and to our series. And frankly, I was a bit proud of what we’ve done and how our drivers have helped us build this series. Overall, 'most everyone has embraced our philosophy and Spec E30 is better and stronger because of it.

That’s why I’m here.
I don’t care for Miatas as race cars, and there are too many modifications allowed in Honda Challenge for my budget. I think you’ve got the right formula here, Carter.

Thanks Carter - I should read rules more carefully
