rear camber/caster brackets allowed?

#1

I’m getting ready to refresh a rear subframe for my car and weld in the Ireland swaybar mount reinforcements. Ireland’s camber/caster brackets had caught my eye a while ago and I was thinking while I have the subframe and arms on the ground, why not add them? Checking the regs I read:

9.3.8.5. Any suspension toe setting, front and rear and not requiring machining or modification to factory parts, is allowed.

Before the can of “factory parts” spills again I want to ask if those brackets are legal. The brackets in question are these. I cannot find any references to them here and that’s making me think they’re not SpecE30 kosher.

Save me $170 and some welding and tell me only eccentric bushings in the original mounts are cool.

I don’t make the rules - but - from other discussions, I’m sure they are NOT legal. Nice solution - but not legal.

I think I need an official ruling on this… I just read about someone else, a competitor I believe, whom wrote “I do not use adjustable ‘bushings’ in my car. I used a weld on kit with eccentric tabs. I think this is superior because the mounting points are both reinforced, and the toe and camber can be adjusted separately. …”

This sounds exactly like the kit brackets I’m asking about. If they are not legal, I won’t waste my time. But if they are, I’d like the ability to adjust the rear suspension and make it worth my time while the subframe is off the car.

isn’t that rule clear that no mods (e.g. welding new pieces on) are allowed? Ask the guy that you read about to justify why he thinks they are legal.

I agree with Bruce. I think the rule is 100% clear - they are not legal.

I believe I know the thread you speak of- I started it. I think you need to re-read the paragraph where he comments on the adjusters, and then the next one. I think what he is saying is that he has multiple cars - the “Non-Spec E30” car have the adjustable sub frame, and the Spec E30 one has the eccentric bushings.

I did the “he did not just say that” when I read it - but there are a lot of series (SCCA for one) that this is a legal modification.

Options I have found with Rear Arm Bushings:
Stock (centered)
Powerflex (centered)
AKG (centered)
Prothane (Carr) (centered)
Stock (eccentric)
AKG (eccentric)
KMac (eccentric)

I have KMacs right now - but I don’t think I would do them again if given an option. I think I’d go with AKG or Stock eccentric.
