One of the neat things about preparing a car is that it is an opportunity to acquire new tools. So far I’ve found it "necessary" to acquire a MiG welder, oxyacetylene rig, air powered cut-off tool, air chisel, and a few odd sized/type sockets.

Miller makes a dynamite MIG (pricey but really nice). I got the Miller 140 because there’s little to do on a car that is thicker than 1/8". It has been about 15 years since I’ve done any welding, but I guess you don’t ever forget. The first few welds were less than ideal, but the old skills seem to be returning with practice.

Fabbing stuff is lots easier with welding/heating stuff on hand… I made killer seat mounts and the meanest/baddest battery mount ever over the last few days. I figure I’m a roll cage, fire system, and kill switch away from having a legal Spec E30 at this point. And Kirk Racing has promised the cage in the 1st/2nd week in May… A few more DE’s and I’ll start thinking seriously about a competition ;license.
