Racetech 4009HR - seat brace

#1

I’ve read some posts where a few of you are running the Racetech 4009HR seat. Can you tell me if you are using this with or without a back brace?

To use the back brace it looks like the Racetech "Viper" seat is the one, but it is pretty much out of my price range.

Are there any safety concerns to using the seat without the brace or will a brace fit on the 4009HR?

Matt, I have this seat in my car without the back brace. After my collision at Road Atlanta, I can tell you with confidence not to be concerned not having the back brace.

You have to have a brace only if you have a ‘wide and tall’ version of the seat because that seat is not (FIA?) certified. Although that seat model is made exactly as the rest Racetech did not seek certification because of low demand (they have to pay per each seat model certification).
To be sure go to their site and see if your seat model is certified or not, and/or call racetech rep.

You don’t need the seat brace until the seat is expired, or, like Igor said, if it is a low-demand seat that isn’t certified. Also, those Racetech reps are pretty helpful if you ever need to call them.

I just bought that exact seat for my car. There is a big sticker on the side that says FIA 8855-1999 with a manufacture date punched out. I would say that that seat is FIA certified and does not require a back brace.

yes, for 5 years from that manufacture date, then it is no longer certified.
