racetech 4009HR fit?

#1

Hi,
Does anybody have direct experience with whether a Racetech 4009HR (head restraint) seat will fit in an e30 ok?
thanks,
bruce

I’ve seen it in an E36, is there much difference?
I’m ready to order my seat, and this is on the top of my list with the Sparco Circuit and Sabelt Taurus.

We have a Circuit in one of our cars and it’s VERY tight to get out. The key seems to be on where your cage goes down the A pillar. On Tom’s car (the one with Circuit) it’s back towards the driver more then it is in my car and it’s VERY tight to get in and out between head rest and cage.

I wasn’t comfortable with it and asked him to put his old seat (without the head part) back into the car so I’d feel better about him being able to get out.

Kelly Childress has one, maybe he can offer some insight. I sat in it at Reobling in May and it fits the car fine. The seat did not suit me so much probably because I am so used to my Cobra Suzuka seat. The Racetech seat seamed to have a little more recline to it compared to a very upright position in the Cobra. However it is a very nice seat and very well made.

I’ve got one in my car and love it. No problems with ingress/egress and I’m a big guy (~6’3").

I got one (well the big and tall version) - I don’t have it permanently mounted yet but test fitting didn’t reveal anything worrisome (I have to get/make custom seat mounts since VAC mounts would put me too high…).
I believe Walter from vmwerks.com has one in the car so he can chime in on the fit (I also bought the seat from him as well at a good price)

Igor

P.S. if you are thinking of getting right side net, you might consider one from Racetech. I think it’s a bit more expensive then most nets on the market, but it’s made to ‘fit’ their seats - and yes I called Racetech factory on the other side of the world  )

Igor, you have to use the Racetech mounts in order to keep the FIA rating and run without a back brace.

well, I wish but not so in case of my seat

I have Racetech seat mounts but can’t use them since I want seat lower.
Also "big and tall" (or is it wide and tall) racetech seat is NOT fia certified, while others from the same series are. So I called factory to ask how come that model is not certified - i.e. what is different. It sucks for me but it makes business sense from racetech’s perspective - they don’t sell enough wide and tall seats to justify paying for certification  So although the seat is made to same standards as others, I still have to run back brace (did I mention that I have to fab one since there isn’t one on the market yet - I was told that they are working on it…)

Jeff and I are dealers now for Racetech as well as Safety Solutions (R3 Head and Neck Restraint, side nets) and we are looking forward to getting Racetech seats into our cars. The reason my car is a bit tight to get in and out of is because my A pillar does not go through the dash, rather it goes behind it. Because of the shape of the Racetech side head bolster I believe it will be slightly easier to get past then the Circuit with its huge bolster. It took some getting used to but now I like the secure feeling of having head bolsters. I plan to run a side net as well. If we can help anyone with getting a seat, R3, side nets, etc. please let us know - we really want to get some product out there so people start learing how great the stuff is. Steve Foushee is also sitting in a Racetech, perhaps he’ll through in his 2 cents. Steve, you out there?

Tom, If you are going to be switching to a Racetech seat and plan on selling the Circuit seat let me know. I might be interested in it.

As team owner, I can address that Ken. We will be selling that seat and the other Sparco’s and Cobeaus we have at SOME point. Not sure when as the price of the Racetech seats isn’t in the budget at this min.

Wanna make me an offer??? Hey, did you know this is the seat out of Patrick Dempsey’s Ford Mustang race car? Not sure who that is, ask your wife (I had too) but he’s a star on some show.

That would be mcdreamy or mcsteamy just not sure which one it is. Are you going to VIR this weekend? If so we can talk about it there. Also I wouldn’t mind sitting in it to see just how tight it really is. I have heard they are narrow. Hey, if my wife new this was Dempsey’s seat she might even pay for it. :woohoo:

I have that seat in my SE30 (thanks VMWerks) and it fits me fine. My cage is very tight against the A pillar, and I am using the Racetech side mounts on VAC floor mounts - no problem with egress, but I do have quick release wheel. When the car is on trailer I have to get out through window, no prob. Just lucky on the alignment and fit (or not that choosey) - either way, it fits fine and is a well constructed seat.

As to fit, I am 6’ tall and waist 34 and it fits me very well - not tight, but snug enough for comfort. Igor is quite a bit taller than me so I understand wanting to get lower - I wouldn’t mind being a hair lower either but it won’t make or break my day. I used to have a Sparco 2000 (now passenger seat) and it is slightly tighter than the Sparco.

Good luck with it.

My wife knows who he is and still wouldn’t pay for it. Well, maybe yours is better!

No we are at VIR this weekend, doing Road Atlanta Aug. 11&12. Will you be there?

thanks for all the info guys - this group is great.
cheers,

Looks like we are on different race schedules. Just let me know before you decide to sell it. I might be interested.

Sorry, just saw this thread for the first time. Yes I have this seat in my car. I love it, and everyone that sits in the car seems to like it too. The side bolsters do not impede vision or ease of enter/exit whatsoever.
