Race shop in NJ?

#1

Anyone know a good place to take my car near Piscataway, NJ? I mean within 30 miles even…

I’ve been working on my car and now I need someone to do the front and rear alignment for me as well as help fix a few “oops” I had along my build process.

Thanks,
Adam

Glad to see another NJ racer.

Sorry, but I don’t know of any shops I can recommend, but I would also be interested if you find one.

I don’t know of any alignment shops down near there, but I can ask around. The one I used to use was Eurotire up in the Wayne area, but they tend to be arrogant know it alls a lot of the time so I stopped going there. You could try them and maybe have better luck than I did (it’s really only 1 guy that works there that ruins it for me).

What sort of “oops” things do you need help with? Might be able to lend a hand and save you some money.

I popped the heads off of both bolts that hold the control arm bushing (the wishbone bracket #7 from http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=1113&mospid=47309&btnr=31_0261&hg=31&fg=05 )

So I had to drill out the bolts and put in some helicoils to hold it. I didn’t do a very good job, and I would like to just “fix it right.” I’m not sure what that takes, but a new piece of metal with the threads in it welded back in sounds right to me. I was hoping this would be an easy job for a body shop, but since I don’t have a milling machine or any welding skill, it is a long battle for me.

I’m going to run by a shop near me and see what they think, but wanted to see if anyone else had anyluck out there with a decent joint.

That’s definitely a bigger oops than I would be able to help with  . One thing that I would be worried about with putting in a new piece, as opposed to the helicoils like you did, is getting the placement right. I honestly don’t know how much things would be affected if it was off, but it would be something I would look into.

Also, talked to a friend from down your area and he said there’s a Goodyear in Green Brook that is pretty accommodating for alignments.

Just an FYI, if you want to know what it looks like from the back side of the bolts,

The oval in the middle is where the bolts come thru,
