RA thread

Compliance checking. Continuing in the same spirit of the June event, we’re announcing compliance items prior to the event.

If you weren’t at the June event, go see the June thread because those items will be inspected on your car.

If you were at RA in June, then we’ll be inspecting your crank, water pump, and alternator pulley sizes. Grab Fred or I at any time to check your car. Failure to get your car inspected will mean a DQ for one of the races.

We found a number of compliance failures last month that the drivers were unaware of. The intent is to help people prepare for Nationals. If you’ve a good idea for something else we ought to check in this last month before Nationals, pls send me or Fred an email or PM.

I will be out of town for most of the 2 weeks prior to the RA race so if there’s something you need help with in a hurry, Fred might be more useful to you than I.

Try shocks and springs for part number and correct height. While the front tire is off, put a 22mm open end wrench over the non-adjustable front sway bar. Ditto the 19mm rear bar. With wheel/tire off, weigh the assembly and subtract X pounds for an unmounted tire. Check overall track width front and rear.

Need more?

Since this is the RA thread. Some people already know, but I will be joining the Spec-E30 field at RA in August and hopefully at Nationals, if all goes well with the new cars debut in August.

I added some pictures of the progression so far. Front suspension, rear suspension, exhaust, kill switch, and belts are mainly what is left to finish. I plan on finishing the car and having it at the test/tune day on friday in August.

How do you add pictures to a post?

This is good activity, Scott. I’ll try to get with you on Friday to check over my car.

Does anyone know if the dyno will be open. This Friday and how to sign up for it? Also, is it the same dyno that will be at the ECC?

Thanks

There is a thread at NASA forums that talks about the dyno. It is supposed to be the same one that will be at Nats, and I think that there was a contact # for coordinating dyno time for this weekend. I vaguely recall putting a link to the NASA thread in a post here at SpecE30 somewhere.

So, the ECC dyno is coming from CALIFORNIA??? Makes little sense to me. So, getting in for a compliance check will be very difficult. I like this hp limit in general, but this craziness of checking our HP on the exact dyno we’ll be using is maddening.

Working on some trophies for this weekends race:

No, East Coast dyno is local. From the Atl area I think. Dyno with them this coming weekend.

That’s not what the thread on the NASA forum says. And I just talked to the guy bringing it… From California. Who confirmed he won’t be there this weekend.

#11

What run group are we in? Lightning, Thunder, or Blitz? I can’t find this information anywhere.

#12

Blitz. The entry and schedule should be up.

Ah so. Well, it looks like my info is old and therefore wrong. Good job getting better scoop.

Mention it to Will. I agree that bringing the dyno out from CA was a hard way to do it. Easy plans succeed more often then difficult plans.

Entrants list is up to 20. Al K will hopefully make it 21. The shop that had the car all this time had some internal difficulties that prevented them from getting to Al’s car that got damaged in Feb at Barber. As a result Al missed half the season. He got his car back yesterday and is rushing to get everything ready to join us.

Out of town guys
Anthony Magagnoli, who will hopefully be good-natured about the fact that I’ve never pronounced his last name correctly. For those that don’t know him, Anthony is the 2012 SpecE30 national champion.
Chris Allen

Newbies?
Ben Andrews
Arjun Soundararajan, who will also hopefully be good-natured as above.

Damion Moses, a veteran we don’t see often enough.
Brandon Pantas with a new SpecE30 build just in time for the East Coast Championships.

Reminder that Fred and I will have lunch Sat for the group, and if you missed the compliance inspection post, go back in this thread a page or two.

Is anyone from SE30 going to be at RA on Friday? I’m renting my #218 to a friend from Charlotte, Nitin Shanbhag, to use for comp school.

He actually sold me my first E30, so he knows the model, but at the same time, I’m doing a drop-n-go Thursday night with the car, and won’t be there on Friday. Is there anyone I can point him towards if he needs minor assistance at the track on Friday?

I see several of us that will be there for test and tune. Aaron and I will be there so feel free to point him in our direction if he needs anything. If we can’t help, we can certainly point elsewhere.

Chuck,

I’ll be there putting my car together and testing, hopefully, on friday. I don’t know a lot about SE30, but I can help with basics.

There will be plenty of others as well testing from out of region that may be willing to give advice as well.

#18

Great, thanks much guys. I doubt anything would come up but never know.

#19

I’ll be there and I know enough to be dangerous.

#20

I’ll be there Friday, too. Hopefully I’ll park correctly.

If anyone is looking for a new race suit at a discount, I am selling my 2011 AlpineStars GP Tech suit, size 52 (EU), 42 (US). I’m 5’8"-5’9" and I have about an extra inch in the arms and legs. It’s black/grey/white, very nice and lightweight.
I wore it for a few events in 2012, Nationals being the last event. It was washed worth Molecule and hasn’t been used since. It was $1450 new and I’m looking for something like $950. I will have it with me this weekend if anyone wants to check it out.
