Post your stories boys and girls. Otherwise the Speednews article will be all about me.

I had a really great time.
Sat Qual. My time was pretty good at 1:47.3. Then I learned that practically the entire field has gotten a sec or two faster lately and my 1:47.3 wasn’t so good after all. Doom on me. Can’t we please get a bunch of rookies that suck?

Saturday race. Short, but lots of fun. 5 laps of knife fight racing.

Sun Qual. It was raining pretty hard, visibility sucked. I’d disconnected my rear sway and was on 7yr old rain tires. Cars were going off every couple hundred meters. I figured that we were only going to get 1 lap of green flag so I’d better make it count. So I pressed on the cars in front of me until they yielded and let me thru. My idea was that if I could just bully a pass or two while people were still trying to feel out all the standing water, I would end up with a Qual time better than most. Then the checker. Qualed 6, lol. My strategy triumphed.

Sunday race. The rain stopped about an hour before the race, thank god. There wasn’t much in the way of standing water. At the Green there were a lot of aggressive and skilled SpecE30 drivers behind me. They all charged past in turns 3 and 4 like a big freight train. I was struggling thru the turns sliding all over the damned place and, to my very great surprise, these guys flew by me like it was dry. It was pretty impressive in a “you guys are lunatics” sort of way.

The most fun of the weekend was getting Mexican Sat night. Most everyone was loudly hilarious, especially Sandro. Of the many hilarious moments were Sandro loudly declaring that the reason he was getting such awful service is the he was Mexican. Later he was in the kitchen fixing up chow and showing the cook how it’s done. Then he went to the bar to mix really awful drinks characterized by high alcohol content and bright colors, and of course show the bartender how that was done too. Sandro ending up picking up the tab for all of us, probably 20, so he needs to eat and drink the rest of the year on us.

Sandro in Sunday’s Lightening/PTrace in rain. Does not qualify. Starts last, finishes first. Watched from the top of the hill in T5.

Truly awe inspiring.

More congratulations later, it is busy at work.

Another great weekend at Road Atlanta!

Weekend actually started on Friday for me. Aaron had comp school so I was there to fix anything that may have gone wrong. Well, I may have caused my own headaches. Randy Suderth asked if I wanted to go out and “mess with Aaron” during his first mock race. Of course, I jumped on the opportunity. This was a surprise to Aaron when I lined up behind him on grid. We made it a couple laps before Aaron pushed it a little hard in turn 5 with me directly on his tail. He ended up on the gators at the Apex of 5 which unsettled the car causing the rear end to break loose. He slightly over corrected which sent him into the outside wall at turn 5. The hit was pretty hard but fairly flat. He ended up breaking a control arm and bending the right front strut. Thanks to Michael Harness for coming up with a control arm, I was able to get the car back together for Saturday and Sunday. He finished comp school driving the brand new purple car.

Saturday was a mixed bag for me. I seemed to have my head up my a$$ and couldn’t get a solid lap in. Ended up qualifying 16th. As Ranger has already mentioned, most people were a second or two quicker than last year so a 1:46+ would put you mid to rear of the field.

In the VERY SHORT 5 lap race, I was able to gain a few position to finish in 9th. This was a very fun race for me, so I have no complaints. I had a great battle with Lucas for a couple of laps and a few others.

I will not bother with the qualifying video for Saturday as I don’t want to get hacked on by all the pro drivers about why I can’t drive.

Here is Saturdays race:

Sunday qualifying was a total mess. Standing water all over the track, rain coming down, and to make it all worse, a fogged up windshield that I could barely see out of. (Went to Advanced Auto as soon as qualifying was over to purchase a squeegee) Somehow I qualified 1st for the afternoon race

Here is Sunday’s Qualifying run:

We were all very happy to see the rain nearly come to a halt before our Sunday race. Conditions were not great, but not bad either. For me, this race was a repeat to the Santas Toy Run in November between Sandro and I. Fortunately for me the results were the same but didn’t cost Sandro a new car. We had a great battle for the entire race. It was a ton of fun!!!

As an addition to Roberts comments about the Lightning race, as much as I wish I was out there racing with those that did, I think we had the best seat in the house for the greatest race I have ever witnessed. Several hard battles were going on up front that were a blast to watch, but the most exciting thing was watching Sandro start from the tail end of the field and with only a lap or two left, take the overall victory. Incredible!

See everyone at Roebling!

Forgot to add my favorite video of the weekend.

As punishment for the extra work we had to put in on Friday, my other son Avery decided to make a little video of Aaron. Enjoy

Have to say Road Atlanta has been one of the tougher tracks for me to learn. Getting there but still have more to go for sure. Fun tidbit, I went faster on Friday on old RA1s than I did at any point on Saturday.

Saturday:

Didn’t stick around all day in the rain for Sunday since I had a 10 hour tow back home.

Was nice to finally be able to put some names & faces together.

Great turnout for Road Atlanta. Qualified 4th Saturday and enjoyed the short race with Palacio until it ended under double yellow finishing in 4th. Sunday was an epic fail, snap hook on lap 1 of qualifying into turn 1 inside wall. Have not fully diagnosed the damage but the 81 needs lots of work. Hope to make it back by Roebling. For those interested video from each day on group three racing facebook page.

RAAW_Motorsports…Tell him to release the wheel after the first correction…the car will straighten itself.

Gosh, I’m still hangover from the Sat night Mexican! you guys are WILD!!!

Another great weekend!! For me, it took a while to get used to the new car at Rd Atlanta, I think most of us take it for granted, but it’s a very challenging track, and the new car is very different from the very “flexible” blue one.
I don’t have video as my SD card crapped out :frowning: But Saturday was fun, started third behind Stoops and McKay, and we had a good battle till Stoop went wide on 10b after pressure from McKay.
Sunday was a little hectic, got to the track late and a little fuzzy  and in my infinite wisdom I started the wet race on slicks, had a great battle with Ryan which I always enjoy, hard racing w/o touching… ever! We came up to traffic on T5 on the last lap and I thought that was my chance, but traffic hurt me more than it did Ryan.
PT Racing is really cool, we should all do it! for and extra $250 it was well worth it! No pressure, just fun!!! On Sat Eric and Stoops left, and I said screw this, I’m not gonna catch them, so I slowed down to get right in the middle of a McKay/Walsh fight, ended up behind them both :silly:
Sunday PT race was crazy, but I ran it with rain tires and it was a lot of fun, and a lot more grip!
Hope to see you all at RRR, can’t wait and please consider running PT with us - did I mentioned it’s a BLAST?! :woohoo:

Sandro takes over the bar, makes the bright blue mystery drinks, then later takes over the cash register. Totally hilarious.

Video goodness. If there’s anything in this that shouldn’t be public, tell me. I’ve not yet heard the content because I’m at work. https://vimeo.com/89612050

It was a great weekend for me! Friday, I went through Comp school. I was doing really well until I hit the inside gators in T5 over corrected and ended up hitting the outside wall. In my first mock race! Broke my front control arm, strut, strut housing, grill, 2 tires, 1 wheel, a mirror and a lot of paint…and my dads windshield because he was right behind me! :frowning:  Thanks Micheal for the control arm!! So the instructors in comp school decided I could get my license if I raced clean on Saturday, so I had to be extra careful!

Saturdays race was really fun! Even though we only had 6 or 7 laps due to the Porsche hitting the wall coming out of T5 he almost brought me with him! In my video you can hear him miss shift in T5 and between the time I passed him and exited the grass, him and another car made contact and that’s when he hit the wall.

Link to Saturdays race: http://youtu.be/LacucLNwOkQ

Sundays qualifying was a joke! I went out on slicks…nuff said! :stuck_out_tongue:
Sundays race was interesting! Since I didn’t have any rains I decided to use some of our hankook Ventus street tires. Which I will never do again! They have absolutely no grip in the rain! Which made it pretty exciting!

It was a pretty great weekend and I’m really glad, I am finally part of the SE30 group!! B)

Holy crap, SE30 gone wild! my wife came to my computer and said what is that…

Fun night!
