RA #477 in Air/Car a total loss

#1

I saw it in turn 3, but my video is in NC with the son-in-law. We’re all assuming that Chris is okay after the drive back to his out-of-state home? Chris, sorry for the totaled car. Really.

Any video?

Better yet, what should be learned from the video? Out of class racing? Suggestions for Gress to take to Pantas? Do nothing?

“It was a traffic awareness issue. Talked to the 944 driver afterwards, he didn’t realize the e30 was there” This was quoted from another spec 944 driver.

Glad Chris was ok first, but i find the reason very disturbing. I will surely be very cautious when passing this particular car.

Here is Aaron’s video from the Sunday race. I think the incident is near 3:45. It is clear the 944 had no clue that Chris was next to him. The 944 took an aggressive move to set up for 3 and it ended up horribly bad for Chris. I don’t know what Chris could have done any differently.

Folks, pls don’t turn this into a public beat-down. I am talking to Jim about this incident and CCR 27.11. Keep in mind that the 944’s have their fair share of legit complaints about us. From their perspective we are a difficult and dangerous group to race with. Of course that doesn’t have much to do with the details of this incident, but human nature will ensure that the troubles we cause them will be the first thing the 944’s think of when they hear of our complaints re. this incident.

So we, SpecE30 and the 944 bastards, can work this out by calling each other names and generating hard feelings, or we can try to work it out dispassionately via Jim.

Hopefully everyone recognizes my calling the 944’s “bastards” was my usual attempt to get a laugh. Seriously tho, no bitchfest pls.

Got it, you’re working on it. Out of class racing is a MAJOR challenge. Wish I had an answer for the lack of situational awareness problem.

Thanks for acknowledging, keep us advise of the outcome.

Robert, situational awareness comes with experience and training. This was a hard lesson to learn.

#7

Yep.

I’m a tired old dude, made too many mistakes in my tenure of racing, too. Folks are likely getting tired of my rants, something about a “glass house and/or he who cast the first stone” cliche always boomerang and hits me. Might try vintage/parade lap racing soon.

I hear that the reset buttons work well with iracing.

Again, really bad outcome for Chris.

Another example of a driver wanting all the track for corner entry…see my post about Castroneves/Indy happens a bunch there… of course it may have just been lack of time at RA and realizing he was in the wrong place, he should have just jumped it.

Serious shame about the car, those guys had worked hard all weekend.

On the subject of situational awareness…wanted to tip my hat to Craig Guthrie…We raced side by side from Turn 5 through

Turn 12 to the finish and he raced me fair and square and beat me by a whisker…Cool dude and good driver… That’s the kind

of driver you want to race with.

Nice drive Craig…

That was a blast Arjun. Maybe next time we won’t spin so we can battle for that UUC money haha. Well done!
