RA-1's / R-888's is it an issue?

Guys let’s get a read on what you all think. Will we, as a region, allow the use of RA-1’s until the ones we have are worn out?

I have a few sets that I would like to run and do not relish the idea of having all that $$ siting out on the floor and not being able to use them.

I’ve seen enough to suggest that the r888’s are an advantage over the RA1’s for the people who have them figured out. If you want to run the slower tire, I won’t get upset. I can also provide further advice about how to slow your cars down if you’d like

Edit: and now I see the thread in the General forum about this issue. It doesn’t change my opinion.

I was hoping to run my RA-1’s this next race at Infineon then switch over the the R888’s for Thunderhill in August.

I would like to make a suggestion both as a low budget competitor and as Race Director for the upcoming event.

The rule states R-888 must be used in all competition sessions, meaning qual/race. You can still use them in practice. Use the Ra1 in practice and the r888 in qual/race. This will help you use up what is left of your ra1s as well as SAVE your r888s from being heat cycled in a scoreless practice session.

I always practice and sometimes qualify on old hard junk tires, and will only put on the good minimal heat cycled tires for the race session.

There are many other benefits for doing this. A junk tire in practice will feel the same as a greased up overheated good tire at the end of a race, so doing this you will ultimately know what the car will feel like at the end of the race.

Just my 2 cents!!!

See you at the track,
Will

Will, that’s good info but are you ok with people racing on their RA1’s?

Your point is well taken but I would still have to buy a new set of R-888’s to race on.

I heard recently that se30 size r888s were understocked by some suppliers so in that case I would not care about competitors using ra1s, however it is up too the competitors IMO. I believe the r888 is faster anyway…
